Folami in Action for Australian U23s
Tuesday, 15th Oct 2019 12:01

Blues striker Ben Folami was in an Australian U23s side which was beaten 2-1 by Iran in Doha, Qatar yesterday.

Folami, who recently returned to action with Town's U23s following a lengthy spell out with an achilles injury, reportedly caused the Iranian defence plenty of problems and won the penalty from which Panos Armenakas scored the Australian goal.

The 20-year-old was also involved as the Olyroos beat Qatari second division side Lusail Club 2-0 in a training game last week.

Sydney-born Folami, who has made two senior starts and three sub appearances for the Blues, hasn't previously featured for the U23s but won caps at U19 level.

The squad has been holding a training camp in Doha as part of their preparations for the AFC U23 Championship in Thailand in January in which the Australian youngsters will face the hosts, Iraq and Bahrain in the group stage.

The competition doubles as the qualification process for the Olympics in Tokyo in the summer of 2020.
