Posh Could Eye Blues Striker Jackson Claim
Sunday, 5th Jan 2020 10:27

Town striker Kayden Jackson reportedly could become a target of Peterborough United this month.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Posh “will keep tabs on” Jackson as a potential replacement for frontman Ivan Toney if the 15-goal League One top scorer moves on in January.

Toney is believed to be interesting a number of clubs from higher divisions, including Bournemouth, Burnley, Derby County, Bristol City and Middlesbrough, but with owner Darragh MacAnthony having put a £13 million price tag on his head and having said he is confident of keeping hold of him during this transfer window.

Peterborough came very close to signing Jackson, who has scored seven times for the Blues this season, before he instead opted to move to Portman Road from Accrington Stanley for £1.6 million in the summer of 2018.

Even if Posh were to show interest, it would be a huge surprise if Town were willing to sell Jackson, who is contracted until the summer of 2021 with the club having an option for a further year, given his importance to the side this season.

Earlier in the week, general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill said that the Blues want to keep their most talented players but added that there could be some scope for wheeling and dealing during the window.

"We want to keep hold of our better players and our younger players as long as possible to try and give us the ability to go to the next level,“ he told BBC Radio Suffolk when asked about manager Paul Lambert's recent comments about perhaps having to sell in order to add to his squad.

"If it's right in a business sense and provides the chance for reinvestment in the future, it's something we will look at, but ideally we would like to keep them at the football club as long as possible."

Yes he works hard & I don't dislike him, but he's not a goalscorer. I thought with his pace he would be good in the wide forward role, but his decision making is questionable to. The problem is I'm not sure what his natural role is. He can be effective making runs & creating space for others & he has certainly improved this season, it's just ultimately he's not good enough as a striker, and certainly not for Championship level, to have in the starting XI now that Sears, Bishop & Keane are all back to near full fitness. We need to be creating clear chances, lots of them, and then taking a fair percentage of them. The 3 just mentioned & Norwood are better in both respects. Nice guy, but not good enough for me. Norwood's finishing has been a big disappointment for me too, but he gets disrupts defences more at least.

No need for a taxi... I'll chuck him in the back of my van and drive him there personally!! Utter garbage! A headless chicken! Worst number 9 this club has ever had! No sense where to run.. take away his pace and he has nothing to offer! If only it was a most reliable source than ‘the sun on Sunday'

Don't think he'll be sold as theres no profit in him, £1.6m was a ridiculous price tag and typically poor business from Hurst. Wouldn't bother me too much if he went. Yes, as many on here have said he works hard but needs quality to match it.

Tractorboybig, can't you remember Adrian paz?? I think you would have to go back a long way to think of a worst centre forward.

Sell for 3m . To replace like for like, 100k max. Good old Marcus could do with the profit.

How the tables have turned....I remember poaching their best players but at this rate we will be a feeder team for Colchester and Cambridge.

If we can get our money back sell him and buy a strong attacking midfield player but in my opinion he's no worse than most of the players in our squad . The club needs a big clear out fed up hearing season after season when he's back things will be looking good its not happening other wise things will only get worse.

I agree with many that Jackson has been our best striker and had a good start to this campaign. His touch is poor and his decision making is questionable but he has pace and works defenders. He does lack real quality and is having a confidence crisis like so many others. Not a natural finisher so if the price is right and a more suitable replacement could be found I would sell. He doesn't look like a million pound plus player but neither to many others in the squad.

Jackson's key attribute is his pace; other aspects of his game are probably work in progress. However, at this level, the challenge is for PL is to turn Jackson's pace into a constant threat to fairly static defenders, and to provide effective support to Norwood/Keane/Sears. But that challenge applies also across the entire team: to understand their individual strengths/weaknesses, and to fashion a set-up that produces an effective team, capable of imposing itself on pretty average opposition. Pace is a vital component. This remains the situation whether Jackson goes or stays. If Posh - who will surely have scouted him - believe there's more to him than we appear to have seen, then perhaps we're missing something. Kiefer Moore comes to mind in this regard!

Jackson is another striker who will make his mark away from Portman Road - if he goes to Peterboro' he'll get the service his game needs.
We'll have the same problem with Norwood, strikers feed of creative service from midfield, something that continues to be virtually, if not totally, non existent at ITFC.

Sell Norwood and Jackson and bring in 2 decent strikers.

I have yet to see a striker with a worse first touch than KJ.
I like his effort, enthusiasm and speed but for me he lacks quality to play up front.
I am amazed that he cost in the region of £2m!
Unfortunately we have very few alternatives :(

Says it all really. If true.
Posh want one of our 1st choice, as back up if 1 of their goal machine's get injured.

The club certainly have no issues selling to a direct rival for half a players true value.
Look at Harrison. Bought for 750k.
Added a year in and around the Championship to his cv.
Sold for 450k.
Of course any forward upto L1 standard will cost 1m plus.
Pompey got a bargain.

We've already sold Harrison to one of our promotion rivals which was stupid but to do it with a second player would be idiotic!
