Labour Chief Whip, MP for Dewsbury and Bolton fan Ann Taylor has voiced her criticism of Wednesday's referee Barry Knight.

Taylor said: "I must be restrained in what I say but I find it difficult to believe that any match could be so one-sided as to require so many bookings and two red cards for one team and nothing for the other.

"The referee saw a different Bolton team to the one I watch every week."

Whether Taylor was actually at the game is not clear.

Meanwhile, Mr Knight has been commenting on the game and in particular the furious protests after the award of the second Town penalty.

The Orpington-based official said: "I've never experienced anything like this. There isn't much you can do about it. It was very intimidating. I shall be reporting these incidents.

"I haven't heard the comments from Mr Allardyce and will leave the matter with the FA. I have seen the replays of the highlights and I was happy about my decisions."

Knight also refuted Bolton manager Sam Allardyce's after-match comments which referred to Knight's refereeing of a Bolton game against Crystal Palace earlier in the season: "He's got the wrong bloke. I wasn't at the Palace game."

That match was actually refereed by Mark Warren. The FA seem certain to take action against Bolton and Allardyce on a number of fronts: Bolton's general disciplinary record throughout the season (11 red cards is seen as unacceptable), failure to control their players for the penalty protests and Allardyce's post-match comments. He described Knight as "biased, incompetent and totally to blame for Bolton's defeat".
