Warnock Blues Link Revived
Sunday, 1st Mar 2020 11:09

Neil Warnock is reportedly “waiting in the wings” should Town look to make a change of manager in order to get their stalling promotion challenge back on track.

According to the Sunday Mirror, the 71-year-old, who left Cardiff earlier in the season, is Town’s preferred successor to Paul Lambert if the Scot’s time at Portman Road were to be brought to an end in an attempt to arrest a slump which has seen the Blues win just four of their last 23 games over 90 minutes and slip from the top of League One to ninth.

Rumours that Warnock, who plans to retire this summer, would be a target should the Blues look for a new boss previously circulated just after Christmas prior to Lambert signing a four-year extension to his contract, which runs to 2025, on New Year’s Day.

Warnock, who knows Blues owner Marcus Evans, has been spoken to about taking over at Town in the past, most notably after Roy Keane’s departure in 2012, and we understand would be interested in the role should it become available.

Quizzed on the links with Town job in December, he told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT: “I think I get linked to everything, all managers do, don’t they? I think that’s how it is at the minute, they’re all talk and everything and you just don’t know.

“But, like I say, if the right thing comes up, I’m not really bothered what it is, I just want to enjoy myself to the end of the season really.”

Non-story, planning to achieve promotion via the academy which will take up to 5yrs - hence the deal for PL

Until Vincent Young is back playing there is no hope.

Vincent Young is not all we're missing. Warnock would be great move. Which makes me think it wont happen. PL is not coming across too well on the motivational front. Think I've said that before

Do it now and move forward. Lambert clearly cannot get the best out of these players so perhaps a firmer hand is required. Either way something has to change and soon.

Four wins in the last twenty-three games speaks for itself. If we had won even half of them we would be clear at the top with automatic promotion beckoning. If we are to make a change in a bid to rekindle our promotion prospects then NOW is the time to do it with a big run of home games coming up. If we do not want to be in this division again next season NOW is the time to act - what Evans does now is a real test of his level of ambition. That said I am sorry that things have not worked out better under PL who strikes me as a decent guy. I think that he is currently paying for the loss of momentum earlier in the season when we should have looked to ride our great run further rather than postponing games during international breaks and losing impetus. I also had an issue with the rotation policy and how it appeared to have been taken to extremes and led to increasingly disjointed performances resulting in unnecessary defeats. In a number of ways we have been authors of our current slide which is made more depressing by reading the key stats for many of the matches where we dominated possession, number of passes etc but could not translate those advantages to results on the scoreboard. Anyway lets hope for 3 points on Tuesday evening ......... coyb

I agree with dissblueitfc it really is like MM all over again. The problem you have with PL is he is no tactician and has no real plan b during a game and that was fine in the early games as other teams needed to understand how you play. When PL was at Norwich and doing well it was his assistant Ian Culverhouse who instrumented most of the tactical play. With that said I would welcome this rumour for Warnock to come and try to rescue the season for a playoff place.

Lambert has had time to prove himself to be the man he thinks he is , he has failed . We have little chance if any of promotion now, should we take a chance on him coming good at last ,or put Warnock in ,a person that is going to retire soon but would love to go out on a high note , a person that has always been passionate about the game, a person that HAS MOTIVATION , and can motivate . I would go with Warnock NOW, its that or be wishing we had given him the chance when Lambert fails, which on his showing so far he will.

How Many more points have we got to lose before Evans makes his move ???
Even Quest panel are AMAZED at a 5yr. contract, although they did say there must be certain clauses in his contract ? because nobody gets a 5yr. contract for failure, as we have been going downhill ever since Lamberts appointment. a case of Talk the Talk and not WALK THE WALK.
Some Highs but more Lows

I find it interesting that someone thinks he is too much like MM and then says he could come in and perform a miracle!!!

We once had a capable manager. Now look at us.

Warnock's record of getting teams promoted is the best on record probably wouldn't fit in at Ipswich then wrong colour eyes .As for Nigel Clough what has he ever achieved nice bloke though.
