Jackson Turns Down Contract Claim
Thursday, 30th Jul 2020 09:08

Striker Kayden Jackson is reported to have turned down a new contract with the Blues.

According to Football Insider, Town offered a new improved deal which the 26-year-old has rebuffed.

Jackson, who joined the Blues from Accrington Stanley for £1.6 million in the summer of 2018, is said to have been eyed by a number of Championship clubs.

We understand Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn Rovers showed interest in January, while Coventry City have been linked and League One Peterborough were reportedly keen having come close to signing him prior to his move to Portman Road.

There were reports earlier in the year that talks regarding new terms had got under way, however, they were understood to have stalled prior to the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Jackson, Town’s joint-top scorer on 11 in 2019/20 alongside James Norwood, is currently contracted until the summer of 2021 with the club having an option for a further season so there is no immediate hurry to tie the Bradford-born frontman down to extended terms.

The striker, who returned to Playford Road for the start of pre-season training last week, is understood to be happy at the club and in no hurry to move on.

Meanwhile, Bristol Rovers manager Ben Garner says he’s hopeful striker Jonson Clarke-Harris, reportedly a Town target, will sign a new deal at the Memorial Stadium.

“We’ll see how we go through pre-season and into the season but I’m hopeful he wants to stay, we want him to stay and build on what he’s done so far at this club,” he told Bristol Live.

“There are discussions that have taken place and they will continue over the next few weeks. We need to see where that goes.”

Rovers were previously reported to want a fee of £700,000 for the 26-year-old, whose current Rovers deal is up next summer, which would almost certainly put Town out of the running barring a significant sale this summer.

Elsewhere, former Blues midfielder Lee Martin, 33, has joined National League South Ebbsfleet having left Exeter at the end of the season.

I feel he is a better player than the 2 years of chaotic management at ITFC have allowed him to show.
He can cross a ball, he has pace, if he doesn't have to think too long he can finish.
BUT - he has to play in a 2 up front- he can't hold the ball up, he's definitely not a winger, his runs need improving and his finishing on the whole is not great, I guess that why he's at ITFC
If fit and we play more to his strengths I could see him and Norwood form a 40 goal a season partnership at this level - Note, I haven't seen them play for 5 months and my memory does not work very well.

Keep him, coach him and have a stable system for him to play in

Dissboy how do you know it is improved? Could be same on a longer deal. I would assume the contract he joined on had a significant relegation reduction clause (We heard 50% in some cases). Having been on of the better performers with a vaour we want to protect we may have offered an increase on his reduced wages for a longer deal. I don't think we have to turn this into a negative story.

i'd be inclined to sell for 2 Mil +. I suspect our interest in the Bristol lad is if Jackson goes. potentially reasonable business.

If we get a money offer I would let him go , maybe ok for this level but surely our intention is higher and he is not good enough for championship football , cannot hold ball up , not a prolific scorer , a lot of hard work and speed will only take you so far .
Would rather start with Sears and Norwood as a front two and get Pitman on a free as back up or another

Eiffel78- I agree with your comment, but "Lamerts preferred formation?"
I'm yet to see what that is!
It's been all over the place, with absolutly no cohesion what so ever.

If and a big if there is truth in this then no harm in a player trying to better himself.
Never been a favourite of mine because he cannot do the basics.
He is quick for sure but it's no use having someone who can match Forrest Gump for pace but cannot trap a bag of cement.
Not a Championship player in my book but what do I know?

Heathen66 at last someone's speaking some common sense. Sounds like youve played the game unlike some on hear who judge a player on the way he runs or the style of his hair. Jackson is not the perfect player that's obvious but he has scored goals with very little service and works hard for the team ,and is easily worth his place in our poor team.

He should sign on the dotted line if not he's in danger of being sent to Coventry.

I'm not a fan of Jackson all he seems able to do is run fast. He is not a deadly natural finisher and can't hold the ball up at all. We desperately need a younger Murphy like centre forward. However....a lot of our problems up front are made worse by not having a decent midfielder and natural wide players supplying the ammunition. Many weaknesses in our team that were shown up to be what they were, not good enough or able enough last season. A good manager brings out the best in players. I'm not so sure we have that man after what we have witnessed so far when he has been in charge.

i think its the players who play behind jackson/norwood that concern me the most slow indecisive midfielders who do not score or move the ball quick enough ,as soon as kvy got injured that was that around ( accrington away). i am hoping for a big clear out but expect that will not happen as who is really a sellable asset.and as for our defence dear oh dear,i am expecting a relegation battle next year tbh.unless i missed something last season we fluked our way to the top and when other teams clicked into gear we struggled to beat anyone.a lot of our fans go totally over the top on the likes of downes/woolfenden etc they have potential but thats all it is at the moment.
paul lambert nice guy but how many fans truly believe he can coach this current squad into promotion contenders with a team ready to consolidate in the championship.

I'd rather we sold Norwood he's too injury prone and needs five chances to score one . He's clearly not interested in playing for the club judging by his antics off the pitch .

Norwood does more off ball than he maybe should

What's he even worth, I can't imagine Blackburn wanting to pay more than £500k would they really? Sadly more bad business, value has fallen dramatically. A good manager could get something from him though I'd wager.

I would be concerned if it was Norwood, but Jackson is definitely replaceable. Plenty of players without clubs that are available that are just a s good. He may go on to be a reasonable player, but still a lot to learn, the offside rule for one. Don't mention have out of his depth he is as a loan striker.

Get rid- he is really not very good at all

Can't see many clubs wanting to buy Norwood perhaps he should concentrate on his wrestling career.

Jackson had a decent season but he is a division one player and probably always will be. He has pace but no touch and therefore the step up would expose his clear and obvious weaknesses. Defenders would just play off his touch and Nick the ball. I think the club has youngsters who are technically much better strikers than Jackson. If he wants away then thanks well done and good luck.

11 goals in a dreadful division? Goodbye! Some players think they,re better than they are. Mind you the service has been woeful, plus the hoofs from the back by our number 4 that he,s expected to win, not much of a chance all round. Get rid and bring in a big number 9 who might win some aerial battles
