New Setback For Vincent-Young
Friday, 5th Feb 2021 08:58

Right-back Kane Vincent-Young will be out of action for a further six weeks having suffered a knee problem in training.

The 24-year-old last played a competitive game for the Blues in October last year with two groin operations ending his 2019/20 campaign early.

The former Colchester man returned in pre-season and was involved in early friendlies before suffering an achilles injury which he was close to getting over.

He was back in full training and was due to play in Wednesday’s planned friendly against Brentford’s B team which was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

However, he hyperextended his knee and will now spend a further six weeks on the sidelines.

Luke’s arrival mean we’re not going to see Kane Vincent-Young this season?

“Really gutted for Kane," first-team coach Matt Gill said as he stood in for manager Paul Lambert at this morning's press conference.

“He’s had a little setback in his rehab or returning to play. I’m so disappointed for Kane as he’s worked so hard to be back in and amongst it and help the squad and help the team.

“But unfortunately he’s had a bit of a setback. These things do happen when you’ve been out for a while and you’ve not played games regularly, you can pick up these little setbacks.

“I’m just really disappointed for Kane because he’s obviously a very good player when he’s playing but he’s also a really great lad.”

He added: "Kane’s setback is a knee injury, so separate to his last one. Like I said before, sometimes when you’ve been out a while you pick up these secondary injuries.

"It’s really disappointing for Kane himself let alone us, but for him, he’s worked so hard to get himself in really good shape.

"But knowing the lad, he’ll put it behind him and get on with his rehab and try and get back as quickly as possible."

Asked whether the one-time Tottenham trainee will be out for the season, Gill added: “Currently we’re looking at a few weeks and obviously we’ll take it from there.

“Obviously it takes a little bit of time to get up to speed once you’re back out on the grass. Currently it’s a few weeks and we’ll just have to manage the situation.”

The signing of another right-back, Luke Matheson, late in the afternoon on deadline day gave an indication thatVincent-Young’s long-awaited return may again have been put on hold.

The Londoner made a huge impression having joined from Colchester for £500,000 in August 2019 but managed only nine games before succumbing to his injury problems.

i dont think we should blame our fitness coaches for all of the injuries,in KVY 's case i just think he is one of those players who has the skills but is physically not up to it, it can happen ,not only in football.

Hey Bobble, I care.

But as my dad used to say,

"When you're in a hole stop digging"

On reflection though, I suppose that's why I lost my job in the graveyard?

So where is PL ? Hiding in his Snood?
He does not care as the club and players collapse around him .
And doubt if we will ever see KVY as he was in 2019 for 9 whole games again.

It seems like the only time Paul Hurst knew what he was doing when he did not sign him on a Free and sent him away ?????

Letting Janoi Donacien go out on loan seemed reckless at the time, as we continued with a 35 year old centre back out of position & the hope of a long term injured player immediately coming back as good as good as he had been; chickens came home to roost pretty quickly on that one.
I like the sound of Luke Matheson, & we did well to get him in, but we really should have 2 senior right backs of our own, each ready to step in should the other be injured or suspended. Playing Chambers there so long, especially with us requiring width & pace from our full back in the chosen formation, and then letting Donacien leaves, is straight up incompetence.
The fact that Donacien wanted to/had to leave because he was given no chance here - he would certainly have performed as well as Chambers, at least, over the course of this season - is further evidence of really, really, really poor management.

Clearly someone or something or a combo is at fault and not just "bad luck". There are real disproportionate issues at town with fitness & injuries over the years and I don't believe they're all down to unavoidable physical issues. Plenty of players with minor injuries in the past come to this club, get repeatedly "injured" then move on to other clubs & manage less injuries & revive careers until its convenient to go injured again. McGoldrick?
I'm sure there are genuine physical player issues that we just don't have off field staff good enough to prevent or cure, but I'm thinking some players need more mental support too.
Not suggesting KVY is in that category but I'm sure there are others either taking the club for a ride or need support they're not getting pre, during & post injury. I know it won't be a popular and politically correct option but I'm sure others can see my points.

He'll never play for the club again. His contract will run out, then he'll find another club who know how to manage players fitness and rehabilitation and be a good ever present player.

All the very best to KVY it's an injury that can be easily picked up and therefore you cannot level blame at medical staff albeit I agree that we as a club appear to suffer more than most or maybe players don't want to play.
Pleased with the signing of this lad as he looks like a proper player who can cause problems going forward. I am sceptical that if he is included in the starting line up then Chambers will be playing at centre back and this has been a problem for several years at this club. Chambers is a very average player who shouldn't get near the first eleven. The club is just in a complete mess from top to bottom. Hopefully we won't be embarrassed by the mighty Blackpool.

Hope you get back to full fitness soon Kane. You are having a very tough time, surely all Town supporters know that all a young man like you wants to do is get out onto the pitch and do your stuff.
Hope to see you before the end of the season.
Keep the chin up.

I'm starting to wonder if KVY actually exists and the quick, skilful, goal scoring right back i saw was a figment of my imagination !

I'm surprised tight fisted ME hasn't put all the injured on SSP by now. He would save a fortune in wages.

Its nice to see some supportive comments on here for one of our own players who lets be honest is still young and who is having a torrid time with injuries. I appreciate it's a forum and you are entitled to your comments however I fail to see how some so called fans can even consider making stupid thoughtless comments. Please remember that this is their lives that they have known probably since academy days of around 9 years old some even younger. To be getting these reoccurring injuries so close to making a come back is tough to deal with and if persists can even be career threatening. I know players read these forums from time to time so just for a second stop and think how reading some of your dribble might make them feel. Yes some players might be tough enough to skip and read the next comment but personally knowing someone who is having similar issues at premier league club hurtful comments from your own set of fans can get players even more down than they already are. Bring some positivity or say nothing at all.

Seems that we only sign players made out of glass. Do we even put players through medicals before they sign?

I wish KVY all the best, its the club and its total inability to keep players fit or rehabilitate injured ones that I'm having go at.

There is a special breed of player who maybe brilliant on the field but who are continually injured. I give you two examples other than KVY, these being Brian Robson and our greatest ever player Kevin Beattie, both were too brave for their own good and didnt know when to pull out of impossible tackles. I seem to remember Robson tackling at such a speed that he took out the advertising board as well as his opponent. I really hope KVY gets back on the pitch soon as we need him badly.

''The 24-year-old last played a competitive game for the Blues in October last year...''

Shouldn't that read the year before last? What a diabolical medical department we have.
