Shrews Match Postponed Due to Frozen Pitch
Saturday, 13th Feb 2021 14:16

Town’s game at Shrewsbury has been postponed due to a frozen pitch at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

A pitch inspection took place at around 1.50pm with a decision made soon afterwards to postpone the match.

Sections of the pitch were a concern once the covers were taken off two hours before kick-off was due to take place. The temperature is minus one and is not expected to get any warmer with light snow falling.

The game will now be played on a Tuesday night later in the season, tentative plans to restage it tomorrow not having come to fruition.

The postponement adds to Town's fixture congestion with the next available Tuesday night March 23rd. However, Shrewsbury already have a match that evening so the game won't be played until April at the earliest.

According to the BBC website it is -1C in Shrewsbury, feels like -8C and light snow is expected.

I know that in years gone by they would probably have played, but by modern standards it is quite a sensible decision.

Can anyone remember the December we played Leicester in a snowstorm and the lines had to be swept every little while, and Roy Keane (the dark lord) would not let the Ref call it off ???
We were winning at the time

Britanniaman - if it's the game I recall it went all the way and we won in a complete whiteout and it finished twenty five minutes late. I was frozen. Erickson said that all he had learnt was that his team couldn't play in the snow but Ipswich could. I think it's still on You Tube.

Cakeman..... Warky wasn't a holding midfield player, as you said it was 4,3,1,2. but the three in the middle were box to box.... he would never have scored so many goals if he had been hanging back as they do nowadays..... they all chipped in with defence ....same as attack.

Never mind the fixture congestion. We can always play Tues and Wed and field a completely different team each time.

I see the Oxford game that was postponed also at the last minute (I should think very similar conditions) has soon been re-arranged for tomorrow...can't see why this fixture can't be?

Lambert must be loving this, enough games in hand to keep him in a job for a while yet. the maths will prolong any action being taken, unless perhaps we get beat by the Cobblers Tuesday, and that would surely be the last straw.Hull on the slide now .

As I remember it, Mills played at rightback and McCall at leftback.

After another year of underperming and mismanagement in order to play the match tomorrow I would have made them sleep on the coach overnight! Never mind a hotel. Pampered pussies.

Now down to 12th and below the mighty Plymouth.

Apparently Northampton just can't score for toffee so what's the betting they start on Tue?

Postponed match is now an excuse to abuse the manager. Such a positive group of supporters.

Ringwood- I'm old enough to remember when players had 'perms' ! . Football was a lot more enjoyable then too.

Lambert doesn't like playing games if there's a chance to avoid playing he will. Remember last season during the international break we had the chance to play but no Lambert wasn't interested, deciding it was a chance to get injured players fit.

The covers were taken off 4 hours before KO on a freezing day and everybody is amazed that areas were starting to freeze hard, I wasn't. Why take the covers off so soon when no thaw was forecast. As for arranging it for a day later, no change in the forecast until much later on so it wouldn't have gone ahead anyhow, once they had uncovered the pitch at 11am yesterday. Groundsmen not in tune with what was required and what was at stake I feel. Totally out of our hands.

Feel sorry for all the travelling party. What a waste of time. Shrewsbury should pay us compensation. The only one good thing is that nobody was injured, was there? Somebody twisting an ankle getting off the bus? The problem is we have dropped another place. The worst since 1956!!! Speaks volumes to me. I don't think I need to point out the obvious. Roll on the next game. Win or lose up the blues.
