Cambridge Eyeing Bishop
Wednesday, 26th May 2021 09:57

TWTD understands Blues midfielder Teddy Bishop is being targeted by his hometown club Cambridge United.

The 24-year-old is contracted to Town for another season, his appearances during 2020/21 having triggered a one-year option, but along with most of the rest of the squad has been told he can find another club this summer.

And we understand the U’s are keen to bring him to the Abbey Stadium having won promotion to League One after finishing second in League Two.

Earlier this week, Bishop, who in his early days with the Blues was linked with Premier League clubs, posted personal highlights videos on social media and may well be hoping for interest from a higher division having made his breakthrough as an 18-year-old in Town’s 2014/15 Championship play-off season.

The academy product made 29 starts and eight sub appearances in 2020/21, scoring four times, the most he has played since the play-off season with injury having hampered the intervening campaigns.

Meanwhile, former Town midfielder or defender Paul Digby, 26, is set to leave Cambridge having reportedly turned down a new deal with the U's. Charlton, Sunderland and Oxford United are said to be showing interest.

Can't say I'm surprised as he's from Cambridge. Was a good player in 14/15 but never kicked on, partly due to injuries. 5 goals in 123 league appearances just isn't good enough for a player in his position.

I thought Nolan was our most improved player in 19/20. Shame he got injured this season. This season's most improved player was Nsiala for me. We played our best football when he was hitting long balls down the channels but that's not Cook's style. Footballing CB he is not. I like Bishop but he needs to move on for his own sake but please not to Cambridge.

Bishop is twice the player Edwards is . Can't understand why we're trying to keep the latter whilst allowing Bishop to leave .

Horses for courses now, it's not all about potential now, it's all about who will fit into P.C's 4.2.3.1.
Defenders who can play out from the back.
Holding players capable on the ball and can pick a forward pass
Three off the striker have to have pace
Forward has to score.
That's how it works guys 🤣

His potential has largely not been achieved yet. While injuries have certainly been a factor there are lingering doubts over how motivated he is to perform to a high level consistently. Sure he might have been seen to better advantage in a stronger team but could he summon up the motivation to get and stay really fit?
Notwithstanding all of that I feel that he should be offered a 2 year extension so that he is given a chance to realise his potential in what will hopefully be a much stronger team. It would also mean that Town can hopefully get some money for him if they want to move him on at any point. He should certainly not be left in a position to move on a free should he choose to do so.....

Cat - I agree entirely with your comment above. To fit in Bish is going to have to get really fit. It will be interesting to see if the new fitness trainer can have an impact on him as Bish will have to put in much hard-work in the off-season to meet the physical demands of PC's system. I await the result with interest....

Wow, how are the mighty fallen.

Once linked with Liverpool and now .............Cambridge!

He's been unlucky with injuries but also has a questionable attitude by some accounts. Like many of our squad vastly overrated, if he and Dozzell were anywhere near as good as some people think they are they would have stood out in a poor team in a poor league. They didn't!

I would keep him

is the choice of music on the highlights reel going to appeal to Chief Execs up and down the land ?

He can go tomorrow. Not good enough often enough and is just not fit. I cant understand what people see in him. Does not score or even shoot very often, his tackling is non existent and does not do any of the hard stuff like competing for second balls.

Spot on shaky town we cannot afford to carry any players who are not pulling their weight if we are going to get promotion. Dieing to see Andre Dozzells promotional video showing his good bits. Might last five seconds.
