New Coach Story Refuted
New Coach Story Refuted

Town chairman David Sheepshanks has branded reports that Town are about to appoint a new coach to work alongside George Burley "ridiculous". A local paper story yesterday morning claimed that a new man was about to be brought in to assist the Town manager.

Sheepshanks, with the Town squad on their way to Serbia for Thursday's UEFA Cup match, told the club site: "I have read and heard of the reports in the press about rumours of action that we are apparently taking.

"And I can say there is no truth whatsoever in the idea that we are appointing a senior coach.

"I have always believed managers must appoint their own staff and the notion that a chairman or a board can appoint a coach to work under a manager is a ridiculous one.

"We are en route to Yugoslavia for an important UEFA Cup tie and it's business as usual. We are looking to get back to winning ways both in Europe and in the league over the coming weekend."
