Joining Town Keane's Biggest Regret
Joining Town Keane's Biggest Regret
Tuesday, 10th Aug 2021 14:36

Former Town boss Roy Keane, who turns 50 today, says joining the Blues is his biggest regret.

The former Republic of Ireland international spent an unhappy 20 months in charge at Portman Road between April 2009 and January 2011.

Keane answered 50 questions from his Manchester United team-mate Gary Neville for his Overlap YouTube show to celebrate his birthday.

Quizzed on his biggest regret, he responded: “Probably going to Ipswich.”

It is very easy to see why Evans appointed Keane.

He had been a very successful player and captain with Manchester United, he was a “winner” as a player. He had learnt from Sir Alex Ferguson. As a manager he took Sunderland to promotion. Evans' reasoning must have been to appoint him and give him a load of money to spend; surely promotion guaranteed?

It didn't work out like that for him. It didn't work out like that for all the previously successful managers that Evans appointed. For me, a massive amount of the blame must lie with Evans.

Rather than letting his country down by walking away from a World Cup!?!

One other thing. I recall seeing on TWTD an item from 10 years ago. It said that Keane was considering the appointment of an assistant manager.

Brendon Rogers was the name mentioned; look what he has achieved since!

It wasn't the premeditated assault on Alf Inge Haaland's? All because Alf said something that hurt Roy's feelings three years prior? Keane is human garbage. Worst manager in our history.

He was appointed because he was a “big “ name and boy what a huge mistake it proved to be .. he was an extremely poor man manager .. and now as a pundit he winds me up every time he is on tv .. he appears to be making fun of our club with those comments , but you wouldn't expect anything different from him. 🙄

Yes not a successful manager but I actually like the man. Says it how it is which is refreshing

This bloke thinks too much of himself, his punditry is also awful, instant switch off. His response should have been regret at not being successful at Ipswich, not from just taking the job in the first place.

Cor wouldn't like to get on the wrong side of many of you, talk about blinkered. No he was a failure here but I thought the interview was funny. At least he wasn't a fraud like Lambert.

he would say that, just trying to hide the fact that he totally screwed up and set us back years, He is not the kind of person to hold his hand up and admit it, his bitterness is probably disguising his embarrassment he hadnt got what it takes to be a manager, but got rescued as an opinionated, gobby pundit .

You joining us as Manager was our biggest regret. No managerial skills, awful recruitment and oh yes letting Jordan Rhodes leave us for peanuts!!!

What a vile and repulsive human being he is. Whenever he's a pundit on ITV I turn off immediately.

You were never the right fit for ITFC, Roy. At least we can both agree on that.

Not really that interested in what RK has to say about his time at Ipswich. It was a few years ago now, he's entitled to that view, and there's no denying the club was poorly run at that time by inexperienced football people above him (such as Clegg). To be fair, I thought that was quite a fun and enjoyable little interview.

Ipswich to Phoenix it was because he got injured whilst trying to tackle Haaland and it almost ended his career i think?
