Joining Town Keane's Biggest Regret
Joining Town Keane's Biggest Regret
Tuesday, 10th Aug 2021 14:36

Former Town boss Roy Keane, who turns 50 today, says joining the Blues is his biggest regret.

The former Republic of Ireland international spent an unhappy 20 months in charge at Portman Road between April 2009 and January 2011.

Keane answered 50 questions from his Manchester United team-mate Gary Neville for his Overlap YouTube show to celebrate his birthday.

Quizzed on his biggest regret, he responded: “Probably going to Ipswich.”

Our biggest regret was hiring him and sacking Jim, it was the start of the rot.

So disappointed in this guy full stop.

Cant stand him on TV, cant bear to be associated with anything he talks about, biggest tw@t in football.

You don't regret it as much as us town fans regret having you distort our club!

A decent human being would have what he did to Alfie inge-Harland as his biggest regret. But he was definitely our biggest mistake!

I personally don't give a sh1t about this moron anymore. If he was half as good as he thought he was he would have been ten times better than I thought he was. Overrated as a player and his attitude stunk.

Putney: sorry mate, don't agree. he got us into playoffs and operated to his brief - but killed the soul of the club on the pitch, and eventually off it. Don't dislike him, but the brand of football was worse than abysmal.

I think Keane actually gave the club a few home truths about our setup, but we weren't ready for it and he wasn't up to the job anyway.

Always good to hear his thoughts, not always good to act on them.

It was the Ipswich Town's biggest mistake employing you.

In my opinion the man has no grace, is arrogant, listens to nobody and would fit well into the Trump family. The poorest and least liked manager in Town's history....even more so than Hurst.

Still like Roy. Think our hiring of coaches has been naff for ages. Apart from MM and PC :-)

Well it was certainly OUR regret you joke of a “ manager”. You single handedly set back this club by a decade with your inability to manage a squad and academy. Bully boy !

Still feel hiring Paul Hurst was the worst move the club ever made under Marcus Evans, but hiring Keane as our manager was right up there.

Worst manager in the 45 years I have supported ITFC. Started the rot by wasting money on players like Martin and Priskin and selling Rhodes for a pittance. Tried to change our colours. As a person he is human sewage - Haarland assault, Vieira attack in the tunnel etc.
One of the reasons I respect MM is because he told RK where to go in Japan 2002. Also why Jon Walters was one of my favourite players as he stood up to the oxygen thief.

I do like old keano now as he is, not when he was with us,he seems to have mellowed with age and his sense of humour is on display now he is losing the tough guy exterior.
think he is one of the best pundits in football on tv as he is so honest and always entertains. he was the only pundit i remember critical of jo hart in an england shirt a few years back. its part of the punditry job you cannot always sit on the fence like most of them do.

Given the money that Roy had, Joe Royle would have got us promoted with a team that played football. Big Name Big Fail

He should be referred to as Wreck it Roy. He might have given us a League Cup Semi final game. But he was part of our continuing downfall. Good players are not always good managers. Point proven.

In fairness, joining us probably was his biggest regret as it exposed his inadequacies and effectively put a halt to his managerial career.

He's not wrong tbf. He has never managed again since leaving us. To all those saying he was an awful manager: he won the Championship with Sunderland (having taken over with them in the relegation zone) and was Championship manager of the year that season.

Not only did he waste millions on average players like Martin, Priskin & Leadbitter. He also hounded out of the club better professionals such as Maculey & Norris, as well as giving Rhodes away.
With hindsight the wrong fit for Ipswich, but so was Clegg

Can't blame him for being honest.
It was one of our biggest regrets in recent history, especially in the last 10-15yrs or so.
Probably didn't ask for much in salary, inexperienced to a certain degree and probably didn't realise the issues we had as a club at the time.
We took on Roy who had I think a year or two at Sunderland, and then Jewell who literally helped derby to the worst points finish in premier league history, we weren't exactly setting the bar high for managers.
Regardless, happy birthday Roy

Istanblue - He was an awful manager for us. As for winning the championship with Sunderland, he was helped by generous player loans from SAF. Once those dried up he was exposed. No surprise he hasn't managed in a decade and become what he said he never would be - a pundit.

Great footballer but totally out of his depth in management. Got lucky at Sunderland with a healthy budget but put our club back five years I'm afraid. Probably Ipswich's biggest appointment mistake ever and I'm including John Duncan in this statement.
