Town Complete Carroll Signing
Monday, 16th Aug 2021 15:18

Town have completed the signing of free agent former QPR, Swansea and Tottenham midfielder Tom Carroll on a one-year deal. TWTD revealed that the Blues were closing in on the addition of the 29-year-old this morning.

Carroll, who is the club’s 16th senior signing of the summer, left Loftus Road having turned down a new contract. He spent much of pre-season training with Derby County.

“It’s great to finally get it all done. I spoke to the manager a few days back and he was keen to get me in. It’s nice to feel wanted,” Carroll told the club site.

“I want to play some football and get this club back where it belongs. I’m travelling up to Cheltenham on the bus with the boys. Hopefully I can be involved tomorrow and see how it goes.”

Town boss Paul Cook added: “Tom is a very creative and intelligent player. He can see a pass and we’re delighted to have acquired him.

“We’ve had great support from the owners and [CEO] Mark Ashton and now we want to integrate these new lads into the group and win games in front of our supporters.”

Rumours that the former England U19 and U21 international was on Town's radar were circulating last month, manager Cook having watched the Rams' friendly at home to Real Betis in which Carroll played the first 56 minutes.

Born in Watford, Carroll came through the ranks at Tottenham and had spells on loan at Leyton Orient, Derby, QPR and Swansea while a White Hart Lane player before joining the Swans permanently for £4.5 million in January 2017.

A loan spell at Aston Villa followed before he moved to Loftus Road on a permanent basis in the summer of 2020.

Carroll will compete with Rekeem Harper and Lee Evans for one of the two central midfield starting berths.

Nobbysnuts. Dont know where uve got the idea hes injury prone. Just read his wikipedia and hes had one bad injury and one minor one keeping him out for a few games, in the whole of his career according to that.

Top work by all concerned. Our free transfer signs and indeed loans under the previous ownership were always average to low quality. Can't say that about this or any other the other loans. All top signings.

Yeah, why would we sign a right back? We have multiple who can play there in the senior squad.

All the signings look decent the problem is there's a big question mark on whether the manager can deliver win rate up to now non existent.

Idnj (page 1): Both Burns and Donacien can play right back if needed, so it's maybe not urgent to get in another option there.

Some of our miserable people (best ignored) would still moan if we had Pep, Kane, Grealish and Messi on a Free ... !!!
Anyone who knows the game knows we have made some great strides from last season, and some excellent signings.
The Diagnosis and Prescription has been exactly what was needed - results will be a certainty to follow.
Who needs more evidence that our Club means business, and heading swiftly in the right direction now ??
If you expected more - just carry on in your deluded world of fantasy.
Positive results are on the way, just don't expect miracles in 5 minutes ... !!!

Blueboy - agree with pretty much all you say. Just would like to know what you mean by miracles. I certainly expected us to beat Morecambe and Cheltenham. A win against those two should not be a miracle!!. I know we will struggle between games 6 and 10.

Signings are good. Tempo has been good. The bits around the stadium and intent to repair is good.

Downside - kitman as a coach is strange. Ticket office and shirt sales communication is a massive let down. Waiting for 3 shirts all in stock at warehouse for over a month and not one email.

Everything will improve so keep the faith and looking forward to review after game 10

blues 1 Tom Carroll is a quality player and if there wasn't doubts about his fitness we wouldn't have got him plus he's only signed a one year deal.

While Carroll has played for most of his career at a higher level, given his injury history this has to be a speculative deal with wages heavily weighted towards game time. Who knows?

Credit must be Given to Ashton and his team for a lot of hard work. It is important now that the remaining deadwood such as Kenlock are shipped out to ensure we have a completely fresh start. It cannot have been easy to complete so many deals and to be a week out in completing them all is quite some feat.”

Another good post Blueboy, i am Glad the new signings dont come on here before they sign! Reading Edwards comments about the wonderful supporters we have, whilst that is true for most of the town fans the same cant be said of some, although i doubt those being negative even go to games!

Forget about last seasons end! we are now a new team, everything is new and cook has so far had 2/3 games. A good team is built around a spine and within that spine partnerships develope, some examples are Phillips/ Crawford, beattie/ hunter, Bent/ Kuqi, Thijssen/Muhren, the list goes on. As we see partnerships develope on the pitch, which they will with a smaller squad, things are going to get pretty exciting! For those expecting miracles after a couple of games i say, really? common sense will tell you success doesnt happen in the first week of a new season with a virtually complete new team who havent really played together!

Welcome Tom.

Never mind P.C getting this squad going, with the quality we now have I could take us up.
Patience is key now, hold your nerve cause things will come good.
The new owners have been a breath of fresh air and that's what we badly needed. Don't lose sight of now absolute dire things had become.
Good luck Tom, don't think you'll need it though :-)

Blueboy, I for one am disappointed we didn't sign Messi. I mean, he was available on a free. Why wouldn't he want to follow in the footsteps of Adrian Paz?

i can't believe the negativity around after 3 games this is a complete new team and some really good young players. after years of nothing the new owners are putting their money where their mouths are. cook will come good and this season at worst will be a building season for promotion next.. coyb
