Harris Believed to Be Keen and Under Consideration
Thursday, 9th Dec 2021 17:16

Former Millwall and Cardiff boss Neil Harris is reported to be keen on the management vacancy at Portman Road.

Harris has been out of work since leaving the Bluebirds in January, having made the Championship play-offs the previous season.

Since yesterday, the 44-year-old has gradually climbed to becoming the bookies’ favourite and is now at 5-4 on.

According to the EADT, Harris is keen on the role and is being considered by the Blues, who sacked former boss Paul Cook on Saturday after nine months in charge.

In January, TWTD revealed that Harris was among the managers under consideration by former owner Marcus Evans prior to Paul Lambert’s tenure coming to an end.

Speaking to TWTD on Monday, Blues CEO Mark Ashton said the process would start in earnest following the Charlton match.

“We have sift through [the applications received] and do it properly,” he said. “We’ll do that in the next 48 hours.

“We’ve got a game tomorrow and then [chairman] Mike O’Leary and I will lead that process and I want to see as many as I can because this industry is filled with perception and it’s not until you meet people you see what they’re really about. I’ve got to clear my diary and this has to be my focus with Mike.”

Harris, who is from Orsett in Essex but is understood to have family in Suffolk, was a striker in his playing days most notably with Millwall, while also featuring for Nottingham Forest and latterly Southend.

He was named the Lions’ permanent boss in 2015 having had previous stints as their caretaker boss while in charge of their U21s.

Harris remained at the Den for five years, taking them into the League One play-offs twice, winning at Wembley in 2016/17, having been beaten in the final the previous year.

He spent only 14 months at Cardiff but saw them to fifth in the Championship before losing to Fulham in the semi-finals.

Grumpyold man The fans didn't turn on Robson not long after he joined the club. It was the night we played ManUtd in Jan 1972 after a really poor run of results and struggling for two seasons but the crowd turning directly helped as John Cobbold could see how poor the team was and gave Robson the funds to buy Allan Hunter and the rest they say is history

Lampard 1st choice John Terry 2nd choice for me. Only names suggested that would garner respect of this squad imo and the link with Chelsea could be invaluable if bring in a couple chalobahs

budgieplucker - the most sensible and logical post on here.
Some just must be on the Magic Mushrooms with their expectations.
Get real you deluded lot - we are what we are - and many top Managers wouldn't touch us with a Bargepole right now.
But there was a time ….. !!!

Blueboy1981. Yes, we are in lge1 but with the new ownership and the money that is available, more do as we go to higher divisions, we are still a,very desirable club for managers to work for. Which is why , as Ashton said just the day after cook left, that his inbox was full with managers showing an interest in the job. Both those out of work, and some in work. And from higher divisions. So we'll have to wait and see who we get. But to suggest no1 managing above this level would be interested is ridiculous. Justcas no1 really thought we'd be able to attract championship players to the club, but we have, there's no reason we couldn't attract a manager from higher either. Clearly Ashton, oleary and the owners are very persuasive people. So why not wait and see before suggesting those fans hoping for the likes of lampard are in need of a reality check. They just might get their wish. Or not. Nobody knows right now.

REMEMBER:-

We are NOT Liverpool, Man City, or Man Utd.

Just saying !!! - with reference to some of your deluded hopes of a Top Manager …. !!!
In fact some of you are quite embarrassing to the Club in expecting too much.

Rather naive of the New Owners / Board sacking Cook without a replacement lined up …. !!!
That was anything but a shrewd experienced move - which will have cast a few doubts amongst many.

Couple that with the fact that Pep wouldn't be good enough for some on here - And what have we got ??
All will be revealed.

I wouldn't be to disappointed with this choice of manager as long as he believes he can work with the squad which is in place and feels he dose not need to spend to much money on players which is never really been the Ipswich way did well at Millwall taking them from league 1 to just outside playoffs in championship this would be more than a good start it's about bringing the players we have in the squad up to scratch and giving them confidence and someone you believes he can make a team from what we have at the club.

Did Lampard turn down Norwich because he knew he was lined up for Ipswich?

blues1 - you seem to have forgotten that many of the players (already admitted) came to us because they had played for Cook previously at various times.
He was the main reason - just ask Morsy, Evans, and Edwards for a start …,.. !!!
Of course there will be many applicants - but not of the calibre you people seem to imagine.
The best Norwich could attract in the Premiership was Dean Smith …. !!!
We'll see what transpires - but some are setting their expectations too high in my opinion.
Hissy Fit time again for some …. !!!

People are forgetting it's not all about getting a new manager. Its about the manager coach combination that's vital to a teams success. If we could get Mowbray and Venus this would be awesome but would they want to leave Blackburn.

@whymarkshead that is a very interesting call, learned his trade in America as an American, cut his teeth in Europe and impressed with excellent stats in the Austrian League, moved to German Bundesleague and served under Ralf Ragnick before stepping up to take head coach at RB Leipzig but then soon hit a sticky patch and subsequently left. May appeal to our owners and the fact that he still has something to prove. Ragnick style of football would suit is - he might just be tempted with the right persuasion and he is not as yet a big name but done enough to have a shot in a big league but struggled a bit.

Bluebudgie, the Man U match was the catalyst, but imagine the chatter on TWTD in the run up to that event! That is the point of my original post
