Fraser Linked With Swans
Friday, 10th Dec 2021 12:11

Blues midfielder Scott Fraser is being linked with a reunion with his former MK Dons boss Russell Martin at Swansea City.

According to Planet Swans, the Welshmen, 14th in the Championship, are eyeing Fraser, who joined the Blues from the Dons, then managed by Martin, in the summer.

Dundee-born Fraser signed a three-year deal in the summer and has made 17 starts and two sub appearances for the Blues, scoring his only goal on his debut against Morecambe on the opening day.

If there is anything in the report, whether the Blues might be interested in doing a deal would depend on the thoughts of the incoming manager.

Shame as he looked handy on the highlights reel. Although his stats were bolstered by being the penalty taker for his previous team I seem to recall. But he looked useful on the highlights reel. Although most players with anything about them should be able to fill up 2 or 3 minutes of highlights on a YouTube highlights reel by cherry picking some of their best bits. I'm sure I could make a lowlights reel filled with 3 or 4 minutes of missed chances and misplaced passes for most players easily enough too! There's a lot of midfielders Ipswich have had over the last decade or so that I could make up 10 hour highlights video of them placing 100s of perfectly placed passes 5 or 10 yards, albeit all going sideways rather than forwards! :-)

And as some have said above, he's not hit the ground running for us. He's shown a few glimpses of what he could be capable of but for whatever reason it's been much too few and far between. I think there's a good player in there but we've definitely not seen the best of him by a long stretch.

I am not sure whether the style of play of our new head coach will be a paramount. 4-2-3-1 is not as popular as it once was, many coaches are now more adaptable and we are seeing many now operating a derivative of 3-4-3 (3-4-1-2 or 3-4-2-1). Even some diehards (obviously not Cook) are not playing 4-2-3-1 every week.

Interesting that 4-2-2-2 is now starting to catch on, 2 number nines and 2 number 10's, the guy just taken over at Man Utd favours this for home matches but often switches for away matches.

Let's be clear the transfer window just gone was heavily biased towards Cooks system, I don't think Gamechanger will be straight jacketed by this and the intention going forward was that Ashton's specialist recruitment team would be always on the look out to bring talent in and be opportunistic in this respect. Ashton whilst CEO (and we also have an active Chairman in Mike O'Leary and Ashton also has an assistant in form of COO) will say he is not interest in certain parts of the operation will under camouflage be doing a Sporting Director's role and have most influence on who we bring in despite reckoning the Coach will have the final say. Hence don't be surprised if there is business done in January even if no new head coach is in place. Mark Warburton walked away from Brentford immediately after he got them promoted as his Manager's role was being watered down to a head coach. If we get a good offer for Fraser I think he will be let go. Part of the operation is to make money on player sales like Brentford and Bristol City, Ashton sold 60 million pounds worth of players at Bristol City. I fell Fraser is a good player at this level but have no strong feeling one way or another. We have several good players who are not performing and if some one like Cameron Humphreys can prove he is worth a few games on left side midfield then maybe we should consider letting one or two players go to start freeing up a little space for the way the next coach wants to play.

Wooly I was enjoying your post until you wrote our season off. The players have shown what they can do when we get it right and as you should know, a run of decent results can raise you up the league quick. I'm not saying we will finish top 6 anymore but as we are only approaching the half way point my glass in still half full as per.

Sadly Frasers town career so far is summed up with the penalty miss at Burton. Signed as a goal scoring midfielder with a good penalty record.
An anti climax

I admit he is not a physical player but it depends whether the team is going to be set up to be a footballing team (like MK Dons), or whether it is just going to rely on huff and puff players. Despite his supposed limitation, he has created 29 chances this season. The nearest to him is Celina on 17, and only three others have scraped 10. In recent weeks, he has been the only player who has consistently completed his passes, whereas the passing of everyone else has been woeful.

Has had more pitch time than anyone else from those front 3 positions behind Bonne. Doesn't press, doesn't score and doesn't provide assists. He wouldn't be in my starting 11 and major mistake by Cook in putting him in front of Chaplin

He's been very poor but like others have mentioned, he has been played out of position. Could take a few others with him Chaplin Evans Burgess etc etc . I think many will move on now that their mate has gone. The work will be tougher regardless of who we get in. Nobody will accept these lacklustre performances by overpaid players

Agree dirty none of them have covered themselves in glory even Bonne has gone of the boil so9regarding a lot of comments) a bit unfair to single out a guy who by and large has not been played in his usual position but having said that PC did a lot of it!!

Good player just hasn't worked out for him at Ipswich like many in the squad . We rarely have functioned as a unit all season and this has an effect on a players form and confidence. I don't think much thought went into player recruitment as we seemed to end up with a lot of lightweight players. You need to balance this out with players who are prepared to do the dirty work when we haven't got possession.

Get the car started...he's been poor whether he's played in the correct position or not.

Consistently playing a player out of his best position, invariably yields nothing from the player in return. Every player has a best and favourite position.
How many times have we seen players wasted at our Club by this ?
Scott Fraser to be added to that list.
Shame too - he has much to offer.

Like many in this team has been played out of position just to shoehorn him onto the pitch. Hopefully the new manager will be a lot better with his selections and formation. round pegs round holes. This has been a problem for many years at the club going back to Mucks absolute refusal to sign a right back. time to get back to basics and restart the season n a positive footing. I hope there will be funds available for the next window as the imbalances in the squad need to be sorted asap.

Thai Blue. The problem is that we have too many players being played out of position in a system that does not work.

So many saying he's being played out of his natural position, so the question is - what is his best position???

Thai Blue And recruitment m8. Too many players signed just because they are good players with no thought to the balance of the team. Round pegs round holes. also no thought given by Cook to the fact these players cannot play 4231. Another stubborn idiot who could or would not change tactics to sit the squad.

Dyersdream. A very poor player? Really? Was voted the vest midfielder in the division last season. No, he hasn't been at his best by any means this season but a lot of the reason for that is he hadnt been played consistently in his best position.
