Ex-Aberdeen and Bristol City Boss Applies For Town Job
Tuesday, 14th Dec 2021 12:30

TWTD understands former Bristol City, Aberdeen and St Johnstone boss Derek McInnes is among those to have applied for the vacant manager’s job with Town.

McInnes is well-known to Blues CEO Mark Ashton having worked with him at the Robins between 2011 and 2013.

However, it's not believed the twice-capped former Scotland international midfielder is a leading candidate for the role.

The 50-year-old left Aberdeen in March after eight years at Pittodrie, during which time he saw the Dons to the 2013/14 Scottish League Cup.

While at St Johnstone Paisley-born McInnes saw the Saints to the 2008/09 Scottish First Division title.

Speculation that former Millwall and Cardiff boss Neil Harris has been offered the job is premature with interviews for the role continuing.

As previously reported, Harris has applied and we understand is under serious consideration for the position. The Orsett-born ex-striker is the bookies’ favourite at 3-1 on.

Harris’s former Lions and Bluebirds assistant David Livermore was at last Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Charlton to run the rule over the Town team.

Meanwhile, it’s believed veteran former Sheffield United, QPR, Cardiff and Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock is not under consideration.

Interim manager John McGreal will take charge of the Blues at Barrow on Wednesday and may well be the man in the hotseat for Saturday’s home match against Sunderland.

I know I will get slaughtered for this but I still think Farke would be best. Ex Norwich but still good. Mowbray is interesting as he is in last year of contact so could be worth a go. Outsider I would go for Gareth Ainsworth at Wycombe.
Think we should of had someone lined up first. Lampard or Terry a no. Would only stay a year or so.

All very very underwhelming...a number of the candidates just doesn't do it for me, but maybe that's due to being in the third tier of football and years of failed appointments.

Increasingly think it odd that Cook was sacked without a ready made replacement. Looks like the pool of new managers is those who are currently available. In these circumstances, would it have been better not to imply a replacement will be in place prior to Sunderland but rather imply McGreal might be in charge for weeks if not months. Looks like poor management. Wake-up call for the Americans - it ain't that simple.

Prefer to put Burley back in charge. He would do great with this group.

If Harris could instil the fighting spirit, team spirit and belligerence he instilled in his Millwall team this lot of ours could take this division by storm.

If warnock becomes manager, after 47 years I will stop supporting Town...worse than scraping the barrel with the likes of him

Depressing list of Candidates ????

What do you PLONKERS expect ??? - the likes of Pep and Jurgen are NOT going to apply you idiots - maybe a reminder is what you need that we are a Division 3 Club.
So, who the hell do you expect to attract ?????

I will back anybody as long as it's not old big head Lampard who seems to think no club is big enough for him. Apparently he's waiting for a big Premier club to become available the mans a joke.
