Plymouth Ticket Sales 21,500
Wednesday, 23rd Mar 2022 17:57

Town have sold more than 21,500 tickets for Saturday’s game against Plymouth Argyle at Portman Road, which has been designated Paul Mariner Day in tribute to the clubs’ legendary striker.

The ninth-placed Blues, unbeaten in 10, will be looking for a win which they will hope will put them back in the play-off hunt against the Pilgrims, who are fourth having won their last six.

In honour of Mariner, who died last July aged 68, there will be fan displays, a minute’s applause, merchandise and a feature in the matchday programme.

Tickets to Saturday’s match are available here.

Agreed 25000 would have been my guess
Plymouth have sold 1200 - I thought they would bring more, there will be loads of Plymouth fans in London. is that 1200 included in the 21500 ?

Perhaps people are being out off by the standard of refereeing in this league.

I think not MickMillsTash, but I think the attendances are generally bigger than tickets sold before games. I suspect we will find there is at least 23,000 plus by the time of kick-off.

Still a gate most clubs with the exception of Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland would give there eye teeth for.

1 in 20 with covid at the moment, may be a factor?

Given the relative small size of our county town and the catchment area, it is an exceptional achievement to get gates in excess of 20,000…… and that's in League One. Unlike Colchester, which is roughly the same size, Ipswich is a football town. We should be proud.

Well we got 25500 for Portsmouth, if Plymouth bring 1200 v their 1900 we should be looking for 24800 for parity. Im a little disappointed to be honest, 4 home games to go I would have thought we would be increasing the gates not see them drop away.... Perhaps SaxonBlue's COVID reminder is a driver as he says...

I wouldnt just narrow it down to COVID - the fact that the price of everything is steadily going up means that people have less to spend on going to football and cant justify the £25 or so for a ticket to a game at the moment.

Agree Tones cones. Many factors, covid prominent in my mind at present as I'm stuck at home with it now! I really do think that our attendances are outstanding, following football is probably more expensive than ever and it must cost a fortune for families. I remember standing in the North stand as a kid early/mid 80s paying £3 or £4 at the turnstile and being part of a crowd of 12-15k!

Saxonblue74 .....
I can go back further than that!
I remember standing in the old Churchmans stand for 22p for a child and 50p for an adult

Saxon Blue - and that 12-15k was when we were good !

20,000 + and most away games sold out in the third tier is still remarkable
