Morsy Linked With Wigan But No Contact With Town
Sunday, 15th May 2022 09:41

Blues skipper Sam Morsy is reportedly a summer target of his old side Wigan Athletic but we understand Town have received no approach regarding the 30-year-old.

According to the Sun on Sunday’s Alan Nixon, the Latics are interested in bringing their former captain Morsy back to the DW Stadium following their promotion to the Championship.

It’s said that Town could sell if the right offer comes in and if the player is keen.

TWTD understands that the Blues have received no contact from the Latics regarding the Egypt international, who signed a three-year deal when he was recruited from Middlesbrough last summer.

Wigan are managed by Leam Richardson, who was Paul Cook’s assistant during his successful spell with the Lancastrians in which Morsy was part of the team which carried off the 2017/18 League One title.

Morsy has been a key man in the Town side since Kieran McKenna took charge in mid-December and it's unlikely that the Blues would be willing to allow him to move on this summer.

Depends on so much. Firstly how much we are offered and who we would replace him with. He is 30 so perhaps £2m would be worth taking. He's a good player book also a booking machine. Is anyone confident on betting he won't have at least two spells suspended in a season?

More silly paper talk...why would Morsy go from Championship whom was won over by us only to go to a club like Wigan in the Championship again? Not going to happen.

That's if you call the silly Sun a newspaper?

Greedy agent on the prowl. The answer is no.

I think Morsy still sees himself as a Championship player & might well want to move, especially as he has worked with Leam Richardson before. As long as we get an appropriate fee, I wouldn't be too disappointed.

Let Morsy go? Gotta be journo nonsense. If it happens, please refund my season ticket. Him and Burns the 2 best footballers we have.

Anyone thinking this is impossible doesn't know football. Morsy may well not want to spend another season in League One at this stage of his career. Also we have no idea what sort of players KM has his eye on. I like Morsy but he's not irreplaceable. He's only been in Suffolk for 8 months so hardly put down roots. He spent more time playing for Wigan and for Richardson

Lets face it, theres no football in our league so someones got to write something.
Its like all the players we are linked with coming in, when I hear it from Mark Ashton then ill believe it, the rest is total sh*te.
With the club desperate to get out of League one this season, and with budgets having been set supposedly as if we had, probably a total of 10-12 players already moving on, does anybody seriously think ITFC is in the market to be selling one of our biggest assets ahead of the biggest season in our recent history?
And if people think Wigan are going to do anything other than be in a relegation battle and have the capacity to pay a 30 year old wages above our level with 10k in the ground? Dream on

As we all know contracts mean nothing these days i get the feeling that he signed expecting us to get promoted and maybe a clause has been written in letting him go providing fee etc are met, only a suggestion but football doesn't surprise me any more,
Having said that what a surprise that the yo yo club up the road have done their usual!!

Bazza8564. Of course they'd be able to pay wages above ours, as they won't have the 60% of income limit on their wage budget that we have to abide by.

Oh well he'll be gone🤔 that's why the posh midfielder is linked with us

No surprise. Great player and key for us. Wasted in league one. So, speculation likely to last all summer. We must hang on to him.

Not the best midfielder since Matty Holland (signed 1997), the best since Jim Magilton (signed 1999).

Planetblue2011. How has this got anything to do with the link to the peterborough player? We need at least one, likely more midfielders, regardless of whether anyone leaves or not.

I would also be gutted to see our captain go but unless there is something already going on behind the scenes I agree that this should be dismissed as paper talk and pure speculation. Morsy has been our most dominant player since he joined us and an inspiration to those around him. A firm favourite with our fans because of very few mistakes and his reliability In the tackle and ball distribution. Let's hope that our activity in the transfer market is limited to positive signings and no loss of our most effective players. We are all hopeful that this coming season will end in promotion to the Championship but we won't achieve this if we become a club selling our best players.

" It's said that Town could sell if the right offer comes in and if the player is keen."

" and it's unlikely that the Blues would be willing to allow him to move on this summer."

So what is it...one or the other ? Bad journalism...

I like Morsy, I don't like his bookings. He has added goals to his game recently and up until then I thinK I would have been Ok with him leaving. Regardless he will leave on our terms which will mean lining up a replacement.
Could understand if he wanted to leave - more money, not playing at Fleetwood, closer to home - would be better if Wigan came in for Evans

Really good player but Morsy made it very clear that he wants to play in the Championship. That obviously didn't happen with us.

It'd have to be a fairly large transfer fee....

The ipswich It's either. If they came in with a bid that was right for the club, they'd accept it. On the other hand, if he was keen to go, they may let him go for less, rather than keep an unhappy player.

Can't blame him if he goes but one I would be happy to keep

Hopefully will follow Wes Burns and put pen to paper with an extended contract. Got to keep our best players or we'll be building from scratch again.
