Bracknell Town 0-3 Ipswich Town - Match Report
Monday, 7th Nov 2022 21:43

Three second-half goals saw Ipswich Town to what in the end was a comfortable victory over Bracknell Town at Bottom Meadow. The Southern League Premier Division side had given the Blues a game in the first half but Town’s pedigree began to show the longer the match wore on and they went ahead via an own goal from home skipper Dan Bayliss on 66, Freddie Ladapo added the second seven minutes later and Panutche Camara completed the victory with his first goal for the club in the 81st minute to set up a home second round tie with Buxton.

Boss Kieran McKenna named a strong side with Vaclav Hladky is in goal with Janoi Donacien, who was making his 100th appearance for the club, Richard Keogh and Cameron Burgess, making his first start since his facial surgery, at the back.

Kane Vincent-Young was on the left with skipper Sam Morsy and Dom Ball in the centre of the midfield.

Cameron Humphreys was in the centre ahead of them with Kyle Edwards on the left and Kayden Jackson on the right behind lone central striker Ladapo.

Clubs can name nine subs in the FA Cup, using five, with the Blues including youngsters Edwin Agbaje and Gerrard Buabo, as well as two sub keepers, Christian Walton and new signing Joel Coleman.

Camara, George Edmundson, Leif Davis, Wes Burns and Conor Chaplin were also among the replacements.

Following the Last Post and a minute’s silence ahead of Remembrance Sunday, Town unsurprisingly started on the front foot and in the third minute Edwards cut in from the left but blazed well over.

In windy conditions and with the pitch sodden following heavy rain over the last couple of days, the home side won a couple of throws which were sent into the box and then a corner, Keogh heading away twice and then referee Charles Breakspear awarding a free-kick from the flag-kick.

Having started passing the ball around confidently, Town were finding it tougher going with the Robins giving them little time in possession.

Bracknell's Jack Dean was shown the first yellow card of the game in the 24th minute for a late tackle on Jackson with the Blues continuing to struggle to find a way through the home side, who were sticking diligently to their task.

Town had managed to get a few crosses in, however, Jackson getting to the byline on the right on 27, but without finding a blue shirt.

In the 32nd minute, Ladapo exchanged passes with Vincent-Young on the edge of the area before hitting a shot which home keeper Michael Eacott palmed away to his right. Jackson played the ball back in from the right and Humphreys bundled it wide under pressure at the near post.

Three minutes later, Ladapo was played in on the left and cut across to Vincent-Young, but keeper Eacott saved with his foot. The ball was half-cleared then returned to Morsy on the edge of the area but the Egypt international scraped his shot wide.

Town should have gone in front in the 40th minute when Edwards burst into the area on the left and cut back to Ladapo, who shot across goal and wide as a challenge came in.

Moments before the whistle, the Blues had a very good shout for a penalty when Donacien crossed from the right and found Humphreys, who took a touch and then had his heel clipped by George Knight as he shot, the midfielder appearing to have lost his footing as he chased back. However, referee Breakspear wasn’t interested.

Bracknell will have gone off the field at half-time the happier of the two sides having kept the Blues at bay for much of the half.

However, in the latter stages, Town had begun to show their superiority and Ladapo and Vincent-Young really should have given them the lead, while Humphreys might well have scored had he not been caught by Knight.

At the other end, Bracknell sent a few balls into the box from set pieces but with Keogh dealing with everything and with Hladky unthreatened.

Five minutes after the restart, Vincent-Young was played in inside the box but home skipper Bayliss, a delivery driver for Waitrose in his day job, slid in to block.

The Robins struck their first shot on goal of the evening in the 57th minute as they broke following a Town attack, but Gary Abisogun’s effort from 20 yards gave Hladky little trouble.

Five minutes later, Humphreys, who had found more space and had become more influential in the second half, played in Ladapo on the right of the box but keeper Eacott was out quickly to block. The Town striker again probably should have done better.

Bracknell made their first change on 64 with Mickel Platt replacing top scorer Jordan Esprit.

In the 65th minute, there was a scare for the Blues when Town failed to clear their lines and after a Platt effort was blocked by Keogh, Bayliss hooked not far wide.

Within a minute the home skipper inadvertently put the Blues in front. Edwards played in Vincent-Young on the left and the former Colchester man cut across and Bayliss turned into the net as he sought to put the ball wide ahead of Jackson.

Town swapped Ball and Jackson for Chaplin and Burns on 72 and a minute later the Blues doubled their lead.

Humphreys, now having dropped in alongside Morsy, played in Vincent-Young on the left and the full-back crossed for Ladapo, who stroked back across Eacott and into the corner of the net.

A minute after the second goal, Town thought they’d scored a third when Vincent-Young was played in on the left and put the keeper on his backside before finding the net, however, the linesman’s flag was raised.

Town swapped Morsy for Camara on 79 and two minutes later the former Plymouth man scored his first goal for the club.

Edwards sent Burns away on the left as the Blues counter-attacked following a Bracknell corner and the Wales international cut across goal when in the clear to Camara, who tapped into the empty net.

With three minutes left, youngsters Agbaje and Buabo took over from Donacien and Ladapo.

Town continued to look for further goals in the final minutes but without creating a serious chance from which the score their fourth.

After Bracknell had made the first half tough, the Blues showed why they play their football four divisions above the Robins in the second half and had had a number of chances before Bayliss’s own goal.

Ladapo’s second all but sealed it and Camara’s third added some gloss to a professional display with the Blues never in any trouble at any point.

The win sees Town, who have now recorded back to back TV victories, through to the second round where they will face National League North Buxton at Portman Road later on this month.

Perhaps we could all stop slagging each other off and just get behind the team?!

Agree d77sgw. Unfortunately the very first paragraph of the very first post set the tone.

The problem against Charlton was poor game management in the last 3 mins of the game, in this game the management was spot on we let them tire themselves out and then took advantage. Burns showed his class could have taken the shot himself but thought of the team to pass to Camara for the tap in.

BBP – please read again! I believe we need a strike force ( one or more ) who can be an aerial threat AND equally a real presence in the opposition box .
ITFC are simply missing out on very obvious opportunities to further embarrass any opposition from this angle .
I am otherwise NOT criticising the number of goals we have scored: but it could be more ,and they could come from different opportunities – and earlier !
( Would you ,in particular , regard FL as a threat of any sort in the air ?)

Job done in the end. It was Bracknells Cup final so they fought for there lives. In the end our patience, fitness and little added quality paid off. Good to see Camara, Burgess and Ball back.

I see progress i see blips (all teams have them) and i see there is a long way to go, kieron and everyone in the club and outside the club knows this and sees this and there will be no resting on laurels until ITFC again becomes the best version of itself it can be!

I find it amazing that some people think we should be the finished article and perfect inside 12 months, all a little unrealistic, we have a rookie manager who will go on to better things i am sure, but for now he is ours and committed to the cause of ITFC.

We were in an absolute mess, its gonna take time!

In the main i am happy with what i see, do i want better ? yes of course and we will get better! I am old enough and experienced enough to know that great doesn't happen overnight and our greatest period in our history didn't happen overnight. Glad they gave sir Bobby the time that was required to turn us into a great team.

Once again beattiesbackpocket has become the proverbial rent-a-gob slagging off Town supporters as "fans"...who does this idiot think he is ? If he can't stand supporters airing their views and every diatribe of his being littered with insults then he should be shunted off back to Norfolk. The whole point of this fan page is to allow fans to voice their opinions and whether we agree or not, their right to express is sacrosanct. We live in hope that BBP will come to his senses and stop making a prat of himself...

While I accept we already have good goal-scoring statistics, I still think we miss out on the opportunity to score even more because we don't have a distinct aerial threat up front. Ideally, this would be someone who can do the fox-in-the-box stuff AND get his head on the ball when required. But of course, such players are hard to find, and what is more, likely to be in great demand. Overall, we are in a good place, but there is no harm in considering how we could be even better.

BBP - fair post in some ways but can i correct you - we do not have the second best defensive record in our league - 6 teams have conceded fewer goals than us

Theipswich, perhaps you would like to re-read your post as from where I'm sitting BBP is doing exactly that, just expressing his own view.
You might not like it but there it is. This is a forum and everyone is entitled to an opinion, and I respect yours, I might or might not agree with it but I'm just voicing my opinion.
Anyway, I'd just like to congratulate the team on a professional performance and avoiding the proverbial banana skin, now onto the next potential one Buxton.

I watched the match on tv and I thought that it was a good professional performance in tricky conditions, roll on Buxton!

Games like this are very awkward as teams from the lower league's tend to put all their energy into the first 30 minutes hoping to get that early goal. But we got the job done that's all that matters. I admit with some on here that Ball has been disappointing and the fact that McKenna had to play Morsy suggests to me that he hasn't got full confidence in him perhaps he's not fully fit . Also the signing of Camara makes me think that McKenna is not too convinced by Ball. Im not going to write him off and shall judge him later in the season.

Good professional job done. They made it difficult first half but were always going to tire later on. And two wins on the bounce on TV, we're on a roll.

To me it looked like we never got out of 2nd gear, not sure if we were doing just enough or it was a heavy pitch after the rain.
In the end did the job without too much fanfare.

Thought we played a 6/10 game tonight. Squad seemed on paper relatively strong & capable but most first teamers benched or rested, so always going to be a little disjointed with players that dont play regularly together.
KM's tactics of wearing them down worked, so intelligent tactics and team selection and rotation of players.
Will upset many to say but I'm still not convinced of Jacksons skill and his goal count is concerning but appreciate he has been given a different role than scoring goals, but he ran his socks off and tries hard, so credit to him. Still think, especially as an expensive forward he should score more though, especially with lower league opposition.
Thought there were plenty of positives from many players, especially KVY, Humphries and Burgess. Good to see some decent match time from them all.
Thought the own goal was a little unfair on them considering how Bracknell punched way above their weight, but we did a pro job and overall deserved it.
Thought we switched up a gear with the subs and nice to for Camara to get a run out and goal, especially seeing the team celebrations with him. Seems we have a decent team spirit throughout.
Lots of positives, lots of improvement of/ for players who don't get a regular place, so good to know we have cover if needed.
Onwards to Buxton. Same again I expect.

we achieved what was needed a win, so im happy. It was a bit like a practice /friendly in first half imo, , we didnt really break int a sweat, credit to Bracknell they gave it a go. Second half we upped the tempo a bit and fitness showed through . Not a great game to watch but we are still in the cup ,which imo is good . So although it was a dull affair [obviously small attendance didnt create much atmosphere] we move forward ,well done lads. Oh and credit to Ref ,who imo had a good game and didnt try to hog limelight on tv.

I love Twtd's great site, come on here everyday at least a couple of times. But I am glad it didn't exist when we won the fa cup in 78, we were a poor side in the league narrowly avoided relegation! I can only imagine how the negative ones would have tried to ruin the celebrations at the time, would those celebrating be referred to as happy clappers? Whilst we were poor in the league that season, 2/3 seasons later we were one of the top sides in Europe.

I takes time and we need to enjoy the ride which is certainly going in the right direction!

Lol! -35 down votes on my first post, where do all these posters come from you don't see on here or post? (nearly beat my -60 votes a number of years back about McCarthy's extended contract)...I can't help think too many on here have got lost in the FA Cup fever, the bobbly pitch, the gusty conditions, their FA Cup final. Let's be honest I keep hearing a professional performance which to a degree is true BUT against a bunch of amateurs. It is about time we saw a decent performance from us in a cup comp.

Some really dumb comments. This was a highly professional performance. Those like Suffolkboy probably miss the hoofball of Mccarthy & would love an old fashioned lump of muscle at no 9 with the integrity of MM.
We, if so called fans haven't realised do not play hoofball & KM in a very short space of time has changed us into a real joy to watch usually. Robson didn't really get us going for approx 3 seasons. So many people showing total ignorance & as usual Ladapo & Jackson getting the wrath of the web footed inbreds.
We are now up against Buxton, a great chance to progress & I expect another professional display. All the unfounded criticism from the self appointed experts I find so tedious, if you are such experts why aren't you football coaches in the Premier?

Dissboy - you failed to mention how our small squad in 78 was depleted with continuous injuries that season which really did affect us in the league, times were different then and we were so consistently good in the league for a number of years I think a posters would have recognised the fact (Hindsight a fine thing).

Dissboyitfc added 11:58 - Nov 8
My point Timmy, is things take time to build and I am not sure squad size would have made much difference to those who just choose to moan, sir Bobby certainly had is detractors.
Btw Timmy big fan of yours and nearly always agree with your well thought out and balanced views.

Anyone see the Derby game on Sunday against Torquay? Derby were lucky not to have been beaten. Like us struggled to get a nice flow going probably the heavy pitch which we don't really see very often. Friend of mine also mentioned the grass was quite long probably a tactic to stop our passing game. We should have and could have put this match to bed by half time with all the misses but we kept going and got our rewards. But a lot of teams will struggle to get their games going on that sort of pitch hence why some teams got knocked out at the weekend. McKenna had a game plan never looked flustered and yet another win under his hat. Could easily of been a Barrow game like last season but it wasn't. We were patient and slowly but surely wore them down. Good to see players returning from injury get good game time along with Humphreys who I thought did really well last nice, We won another TV game what's not to like? On to Buxton at home where we will have a decent pitch and can play football as we are used to.

Professional job well done and valuable game time for some. Ball doesn't look like he is good enough, highlight of the night the way everyone gathered around camara to celebrate his goal, shows what a close group they are together, onwards and upwards
