Bracknell Town 0-3 Ipswich Town - Match Report
Monday, 7th Nov 2022 21:43

Three second-half goals saw Ipswich Town to what in the end was a comfortable victory over Bracknell Town at Bottom Meadow. The Southern League Premier Division side had given the Blues a game in the first half but Town’s pedigree began to show the longer the match wore on and they went ahead via an own goal from home skipper Dan Bayliss on 66, Freddie Ladapo added the second seven minutes later and Panutche Camara completed the victory with his first goal for the club in the 81st minute to set up a home second round tie with Buxton.

Boss Kieran McKenna named a strong side with Vaclav Hladky is in goal with Janoi Donacien, who was making his 100th appearance for the club, Richard Keogh and Cameron Burgess, making his first start since his facial surgery, at the back.

Kane Vincent-Young was on the left with skipper Sam Morsy and Dom Ball in the centre of the midfield.

Cameron Humphreys was in the centre ahead of them with Kyle Edwards on the left and Kayden Jackson on the right behind lone central striker Ladapo.

Clubs can name nine subs in the FA Cup, using five, with the Blues including youngsters Edwin Agbaje and Gerrard Buabo, as well as two sub keepers, Christian Walton and new signing Joel Coleman.

Camara, George Edmundson, Leif Davis, Wes Burns and Conor Chaplin were also among the replacements.

Following the Last Post and a minute’s silence ahead of Remembrance Sunday, Town unsurprisingly started on the front foot and in the third minute Edwards cut in from the left but blazed well over.

In windy conditions and with the pitch sodden following heavy rain over the last couple of days, the home side won a couple of throws which were sent into the box and then a corner, Keogh heading away twice and then referee Charles Breakspear awarding a free-kick from the flag-kick.

Having started passing the ball around confidently, Town were finding it tougher going with the Robins giving them little time in possession.

Bracknell's Jack Dean was shown the first yellow card of the game in the 24th minute for a late tackle on Jackson with the Blues continuing to struggle to find a way through the home side, who were sticking diligently to their task.

Town had managed to get a few crosses in, however, Jackson getting to the byline on the right on 27, but without finding a blue shirt.

In the 32nd minute, Ladapo exchanged passes with Vincent-Young on the edge of the area before hitting a shot which home keeper Michael Eacott palmed away to his right. Jackson played the ball back in from the right and Humphreys bundled it wide under pressure at the near post.

Three minutes later, Ladapo was played in on the left and cut across to Vincent-Young, but keeper Eacott saved with his foot. The ball was half-cleared then returned to Morsy on the edge of the area but the Egypt international scraped his shot wide.

Town should have gone in front in the 40th minute when Edwards burst into the area on the left and cut back to Ladapo, who shot across goal and wide as a challenge came in.

Moments before the whistle, the Blues had a very good shout for a penalty when Donacien crossed from the right and found Humphreys, who took a touch and then had his heel clipped by George Knight as he shot, the midfielder appearing to have lost his footing as he chased back. However, referee Breakspear wasn’t interested.

Bracknell will have gone off the field at half-time the happier of the two sides having kept the Blues at bay for much of the half.

However, in the latter stages, Town had begun to show their superiority and Ladapo and Vincent-Young really should have given them the lead, while Humphreys might well have scored had he not been caught by Knight.

At the other end, Bracknell sent a few balls into the box from set pieces but with Keogh dealing with everything and with Hladky unthreatened.

Five minutes after the restart, Vincent-Young was played in inside the box but home skipper Bayliss, a delivery driver for Waitrose in his day job, slid in to block.

The Robins struck their first shot on goal of the evening in the 57th minute as they broke following a Town attack, but Gary Abisogun’s effort from 20 yards gave Hladky little trouble.

Five minutes later, Humphreys, who had found more space and had become more influential in the second half, played in Ladapo on the right of the box but keeper Eacott was out quickly to block. The Town striker again probably should have done better.

Bracknell made their first change on 64 with Mickel Platt replacing top scorer Jordan Esprit.

In the 65th minute, there was a scare for the Blues when Town failed to clear their lines and after a Platt effort was blocked by Keogh, Bayliss hooked not far wide.

Within a minute the home skipper inadvertently put the Blues in front. Edwards played in Vincent-Young on the left and the former Colchester man cut across and Bayliss turned into the net as he sought to put the ball wide ahead of Jackson.

Town swapped Ball and Jackson for Chaplin and Burns on 72 and a minute later the Blues doubled their lead.

Humphreys, now having dropped in alongside Morsy, played in Vincent-Young on the left and the full-back crossed for Ladapo, who stroked back across Eacott and into the corner of the net.

A minute after the second goal, Town thought they’d scored a third when Vincent-Young was played in on the left and put the keeper on his backside before finding the net, however, the linesman’s flag was raised.

Town swapped Morsy for Camara on 79 and two minutes later the former Plymouth man scored his first goal for the club.

Edwards sent Burns away on the left as the Blues counter-attacked following a Bracknell corner and the Wales international cut across goal when in the clear to Camara, who tapped into the empty net.

With three minutes left, youngsters Agbaje and Buabo took over from Donacien and Ladapo.

Town continued to look for further goals in the final minutes but without creating a serious chance from which the score their fourth.

After Bracknell had made the first half tough, the Blues showed why they play their football four divisions above the Robins in the second half and had had a number of chances before Bayliss’s own goal.

Ladapo’s second all but sealed it and Camara’s third added some gloss to a professional display with the Blues never in any trouble at any point.

The win sees Town, who have now recorded back to back TV victories, through to the second round where they will face National League North Buxton at Portman Road later on this month.

Bracknell: Eacott, Dean, Burden, Cheshire, Bayliss (c), Knight, Abisogun (Sanders 78), Lodge, Esprit (Platt 64), English, Herbert (Grant 79). Unused: Grant, Cook, Penton, Rees, Moore, Osu.

Some are easily pleased you forget we're playing a bunch of part timers...for 60 minutes of that game we were poor, apparently the pitch wasn't that bad (other than in one corner) so you can't blame that...credit to Bracknell they put a shift and closed us down well particularly in the 1st half.

As for looking at other league one sides who got knocked out particularly Plymouth whom I'm pretty sure didn't give a monkies about it if you looked at their starting line up (no Wilson, Mamba, Mayor, Ennis and Whittaker) and at half-time 5-1 down, does that sound like a team who haven't been beaten in 14 games?

The moaning tonight at half-time was all part and parcel of years of poor displays in cup competitions...we will get a decent display one day.

Good professional performance against a hard-working non-league outfit. KVY and Edwards combined well at times and Humphreys was a handful. Great attitude from the players tonight - anything less could have been punished.

Credit to Bracknell's for giving us a tough first half. No bookings hopefully no injuries. Job done time to move on to Cheltenham. Burgess had a good workout and was strong in the air. TV spell broken again. This is the start of KM 's cup run. Time to forget what happened at Charlton. The squad is functioning well.

Job done, banana skin avoided. We knew this was their cup final and they were going to run themselves into the ground. We just had to be patient, and we were. Further evidence of KMK's influence.

All credit to Bracknell. I think they gave us more of a game than some of the dross that have turned up to PR this season, e.g. Lincoln. I hope they can drive on from this game and get promoted.

Robsonwalk your returning to type criticism of certain players you just don't like just doesn't have facts behind it whatsoever this is what makes you look silly.
Second best defence in the league and top scorers in all four leagues after Man City and Plymouth if you're going to make scathing attacks against the team or players have facts to back them up because as I say you look fickle and show your lack of football knowledge and again FACTS

BeattiesBackPocket I've never said we need a 20 gaol a season striker. The system that KMcK plays we don't need that as we are scoring goals from every where. I do think we need 2 new central defenders though because without Walton we wouldn't be where we are now. You are probably one of those who criticised Walton for the draw at Charlton! He has been one if not our best player this season.

BBP - you've got a lot to say tonight!...I wonder if we had drawn tonight all those posters that have marked you up would have done so, I agree with Robsonwark regarding Ball but I'm not sure what games you have been watching him in but but class is not a word I'd chose to describe him (so far).

I thought tonight would be a scrap...and credit to Bracknell but other than KVY I wouldn't mark any of them higher than 6...3-0 did flatter us.

BeattiesBackPocket that's a big statement. Tell me when "Balls" (as you call him) has been class in some games. And Yes, I have been to many games as I am a season ticket holder. Have you?

TimmyH I said to someone I know on here we would win 3 or 4 nil tractorboy58 will back that up. We had 80% possession which I expected quiet right but anyone could see they wouldn't do that for 90 minutes we were pulling them around the pitch the whole game same as we do to league one sides and which has worked well this season simple. As I said top scorers behind only Man City and Plymouth in top 4 leagues and second best defence in the league. Regarding team selection you're very opinionated about how Plymouth rested players but don't see we only had 3 regulars in the side JD, Morsy and Ladapo. The rest fringe players who coke in to freshen us up m, burgess back from a big injury a 37 year old and centre back an 18 year old in the middle who should have had a penalty first half so Plymouth weren't interested but we were or were supposed to be sums up perfectly a minority of our fans on here

Robsonwalk yes season ticket holder for 30 plus years and I've seen enough poor players past 10 years to realise the difference between then and now is massive but some on here won't look at it like that which is mental and I've missed 3 away games so far this season so yeah I've seen a few thanks

Saxonblue I just call out the players who are not good enough for our team if we want to get promoted. He does come across as a nice guy on Edmundson's coffee club episodes though if that's what impresses you.

i don't think there is any need to moan, it went exactly how i thought! It was a professional performance and its been along while since we have been able to say that about an FA cup game, lets not forget, we would have lost this game under our last 4 managers!

I thought Cam humphries was superb, thought KVY and Burgess looked good, Not been impressed with Ball, looks a dangerous player to have in your team, not in a good way though! And Ladapo needs too many chances.

Job done, bring on Cheltenham!

Robsonwalk also I was a huge critic of woolfy coupe of seasons back when he like norwood and everyone came off having lost against Swindon at home laughing and smiling but that ethos in the club left with the sh!te old owner. This is a very different club top to bottom and as much as people and players like chambers and woolfy had my criticism then woolfy has my backing now as I say second best defence in the league

Yes! Through to next round. Never looked under any pressure (apart from 5 minute spell in second half) but needed to go up through the gears against a battling opposition....and did so. BBC, desperate for a cup upset, were trying to sensationalize on live text....and even Lee Dixon on ITV4 was doing his bit(idiot). Stone wall penalty not given and couple of great chances missed first half. Then turned the screw second half. Will want better in the league but job done.

We really do have some strange fans . Of course we deserved that scoreline . It was exactly as I expected. They huffed and puffed. We didn't settle at first but gradually kept playing our football and they ran out of steam . They created nothing and we could have had 2 or 3 more . It was a professional performance, and Plymouth did put out a strong side actually in their game.

BeattiesBackPocket everything looks great on paper. If only the league would give us the points based on paper results each week. You are so blinded by the fact that we win with one or two poor players in the team each week. Watch the match and see how poor some players really are. Too many happy clappers on here. I want us to go up as Champions. No one remembers the runners up! AND you don't get a trophy for second either!!

RobsonWark added 22:37 - Nov 7
BeattiesBackPocket that's because we have the BEST goalkeeper in the league!

BBF - fact is Plymouth have a smaller squad than us and most probably can't get by once they leave out their main stay players, don't disagree with you regarding our line up but feel we probably have more strength in depth than Argyle agree also I think fitness did come into the agenda tonight...but not through outplaying them....and what's your point about predicting the score?

Other than that not moaning at all about the start of the season and what KM's doing (best acquisition as manager we've made in years)...in a good position, one or two unconvincing performances of late but the consistency we need is there, but the real litmus test starts in the New Year.

Job done tonight. We have 10 years of ghosts to erase, and we're doing them one by one. Victory live on TV, progression in the FA cup, etc

The sad thing is how some of our fans have ‘evolved' in that time. I was always proud of the fan base - they didn't suffer from the ‘entitlement' so many other clubs did. But now, so many entitled so called fans frequent this forum, believing the team should walk every game, and should have a gold plated path to the PM. These are the rose-tinted views one expects from teenagers ….

BeattiesBackPocket still waiting for you to tell me when "Balls" (as you call him) has been class in some games. Can't think of any? Thought not. You are showing yourself to be utterly clueless! Keep wearing those rose tinted spectacles.

AlanG296 added 23:30 - Nov 7
Talk of "entitlement" is rubbish. Expectations should be high as for the first time in my 4 decades and more of following Town we have a manager blessed with the most competitive (versus the rest of our division) resources on and off the field, based on the level of funding, there's ever been in my time, if not ever. No excuses if he fails, I'm cautiously optimistic that he won't.

We all know football is a game of opinions, but blimey there's some rose-tinters on here. It was a professional, ponderous display, where fitness and some quality made the difference in the second half.
Personally, I detest the way we pass the ball across our backline!!

Just back from the game. What a fabulous occasion for Bracknell. A decent little non league ground, good fans and I thought their team deserved a lot of credit. Don't get to see many games these days so it was the first time I have watched many of these players in blue - the stand out to me was Cameron Humphries - what a classy composed player he is with a little bit of grit - one of the Bracknell lads singled him out too - I just hope we keep hold of him for a few years. Fab night even though the performance was not amazing it was a professional job in difficult conditions - next !

The usual suspects and euphoria hissy fits conveniently forget that there was ONLY 105 League Positions between the Two Clubs - not even a mention of that from them about the fact that a Win should have been expected anyway.
Job Done tonight in the End - but far from impressive until the opposition lost their shape, and fitness told eventually.
If you ‘hissy fits' think we don't need to be better than to just have delusions of the Championship and stay there - then you'll soon need to think again !!
‘Better than Yesterday - doesn't mean we don't need to be better Tomorrow'.
Comparing where ‘we were' which the usual suspects continue to do - bares no relevance to where we WANT TO BE - after an awfully long, long time.
Much STILL to do.
We are a potentially, once again, BIG CLUB - amongst many Minnows currently.
Now that IS Embarrassing !!!
