MacAnthony Dismisses Clarke-Harris to Town Claims
Monday, 19th Dec 2022 11:57

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has dismissed rumours linking Posh striker Jonson Clarke-Harris with a January move to the Blues.

Clarke-Harris, League One’s current top scorer with 12 goals, has been mentioned in connection with Town in recent weeks with claims financial issues might force Peterborough to sell the 28-year-old.

However, asked directly whether there was any truth in the Clarke-Harris to Town claims on Twitter, MacAnthony said that wasn’t the case, having also said he is content with his club’s financial position.

A central striker would appear to be top of Town’s January wish-list having looked to sign Leicester’s George Hirst, who subsequently signed a new deal and joined Blackburn on loan, and former loan striker Will Keane, now with Wigan, in the summer.

As previously reported, the Blues have been keeping tabs on Brighton's 18-year-old Republic of Ireland striker Evan Ferguson with a view to a loan.

The Blues’ options are currently more limited with Tyreece John-Jules having suffered a hamstring injury which rules him out until February or March.

Nomore4. If ur gonna slag some1 off at least get ur facts right. Ahadme has only really had 1 full season in the football league. Prior to that was in the Norwich academy.
And scored 8 goals in 22 apperarances. So,where u get 6 goals in 5 seasons beggars belief. Still has a way to go until he's the finished article tho, so shouldn't be writing him off just yet.

This is a difficult situation for KMK as one could argue that a striker capable of being a force in the Championship may not necessarily be what is needed to get out of this league. Whilst a quality player can play at any level my point is that this league is more pedestrian and more physical than the Championship and therefore maybe either a short term fix or loanee may be a better option ?

January is going to be a very difficult transfer window.

First, clubs do not want to lose their best players halfway through a season, so the ones on the market tend to be the ones who are inexperienced, have injury issues, etc.

Second, apparently Terry Butcher has said that only two or three of this team are Championship quality. Therefore, the last thing we want to do, assuming that we are going to be promoted, is to sign more League One quality players. However, the trouble is that good Championship players are not going to want to come here until promotion is a done deal.

If we do sign new players in the January transfer window they must be fully fit and ready to start. What's the point in signing players no matter how good they be if they are crocked. What's the news on Camara it's all gone quiet on that front i can see another operation on the horizon out for the rest of the season.
