McKenna: John-Jules Making Progress and No Thoughts About Ending Loan
Saturday, 31st Dec 2022 15:21

Blues boss Kieran McKenna says says forward Tyreece John-Jules is making good progress having undergone hamstring surgery in November and that there are no plans to end the 21-year-old’s loan spell from Arsenal early.

After the England U21 international went under the knife, McKenna said he expected him back in February or March and the Town manager says John-Jules should have a better idea when he might be back next month.

“He’s doing OK, he’s doing his recovery at Arsenal at the moment,” he said. “We spoke to him the other day and he’s happy with how he’s progressing.

“He’s got a meeting with the specialist around the middle of January and then we’ll know a little bit more about how he’s progressing then.”

Given the length of his absence have there been any thoughts about ending the loan early? “No, no thoughts or discussions in that area at all.”

Prior to the injury, John-Jules had made 10 starts and 11 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring three goals.

I'd say this is a barmy decision by Town. JJ won't be fit until nearly the end of the season. Why keep him on our books taking up a valuable squad space? We NEED and could bring in a player who can contribute to the games now if JJ goes back to Arsenal now.

Having a real 2nd option to replace ladapo is our problem at the mo.
Bringing on subs for the front 3 .
Edwards sone and jj was a big plus until injuries

Why oh why do we have cause to doubt the clarity of thought ,judgement and decision making of our exceptional Manager ?
Let's simply understand that he'll have a reason for each and every decision and nothing but nothing is simply off the top of his head !
There'll be a longer term reason for wanting TJJ back at ITFC .

At the end of the day KM wont say anything public about anything of this nature until all the parties have reached agreement, and although I wouldn't have worded it quite as ArnieM has done, my belief is that we will look to sign another 10 to get back to four in that position and that waiting for JJ to get fit for two months really isn't good sense. So in that sense, the sentiments are right in my opinion.
The whispers about Whittaker seem to have been silenced and his loan recall clause kicks in tonight, he or someone else will be fit and ready to go so why run the risk?
Im pretty convinced we will de-register Ball, Camara and probably JJ and we will sign a striker, a ten and one midfielder at least.
With the gap at the top closing I cannot believe the board will risk this position slipping away again without the strongest possible options so it could be a really important and busy month

I agree with Bazza regarding our priorities. Depending upon who comes in during January I think McKenna will then assess the situation and deregister at least two or maybe three players.
We mustn't let this opportunity pass us by but I'm sure the Owners recognise the situation. Ashton also has probably done his homework and is already down the line with reinforcements.

Lets hope for three points on monday because it's a bit close for comfort at the top.

Arnie, he's U21 so doesn't take up a squad space if you're referring to the 22 man limit.

Oh well if that's the case then sending him back to Arsenal won't serve any purpose. Had he been a senior squad player I do think we definitely would have cut short his loan period. He sure as hell will never be signing for us permanently I think.
