Town Target Everton Striker Broadhead
Wednesday, 4th Jan 2023 12:19

Town are targeting Everton striker Nathan Broadhead, who is currently on loan with Championship Wigan.

The 24-year-old has spent the first half of the season on loan with the Latics but with a recall with a view to a permanent move elsewhere understood to be on the cards.

And according to the Sunderland Echo, there is an offer on the table from the Blues for the former Wales U17, U19, U20 and U21 international.

However, they claim Broadhead would ideally prefer a return to Championship Sunderland where he was on loan last season. Whether the Black Cats are interested in a reunion is said to be unclear at this stage.

TWTD understands the Blues have indeed made contact with Everton regarding Broadhead as they look to strengthen their striking ranks during January.

Broadhead was a youth player with hometown side Bangor City and Wrexham before joining Everton’s academy as a 10-year-old.

The 5ft 10in tall frontman has made two senior sub appearances for the Toffeemen but has spent most of the last few seasons out on loan.

In 2019/20 he was with Burton, scoring three times in 15 starts and seven sub appearances, then spent 2021/22 on Wearside, netting 13 goals in 20 starts and seven games from the bench.

He joined Wigan in the summer and so far this season has scored five goals in 11 starts and 11 sub appearances.

Adding a new striker is among the Blues’ main aims during the January window. Brighton’s 18-year-old frontman Evan Ferguson was among those Town had been keeping tabs on, however, the Irish international is now almost certainly out of reach having broken into the Seagulls’ first team, scoring his second goal in two games in his first Premier League start as the Sussex side won 4-1 at Everton last night.

Meanwhile, the Blues remain interested in Swansea forward Morgan Whittaker, who was recalled from his loan spell at Plymouth yesterday, but with no deal currently in progress.

Elsewhere, Peterborough have sacked manager Grant McCann replacing him with Darren Ferguson for the rest of the season, however, the move would seem unlikely to impact the Blues' pursuit of midfielder Jack Taylor. As reported yesterday, talks between the clubs are continuing.

Don't think a lot of people on here will be satisfied until we get Harry Kane. As ive said on here many times there's no guarantee who ever we sign is going to score 20 goals potentially he might. As for the lad from Everton his record is quite good. But youve got to be realistic we are a league one club at the moment and any player we sign is going to have his weaknesses. For what it's worth in my opinion we need something different a striker who is useful in the air. I think Conner Wickham would be a massive risk unless he could pass a strenuous fitness test.

Linkboy13; generally I agree with you, but I don't see any point in signing someone unless they are better than what we have already. Also, it seems that Whittaker has reservations about joining us.

Rumours running wild we will know who we have when he or they are in the building,
Just a passing thought i really don't want a repeat the last time we had Peterborough and Taylor in the same sentence that signing was mind boggling.

Yes according to Wikipedia he is squad number 22 which is El Mizouni 's number so unless Mizouni's left the club this cannot be correct in my mind.

No way Whittaker has signed... We'd have heard if he'd been to the club for a medical... He seemed fairly upset to be removed from Plymouth.. could've been his agent saying what he thought should be said of course..
I wouldn't bet money on him coming to town though.
I think more likely Wickham will be joining...

Whittaker on loan until the end of the season. Then becomes permanent for already agreed fee.
Championship clubs are skint…….we have the funds in place to reach the Premier league.
And the clock is ticking.

Expect 2 or 3 stand out/statement signings over coming days/weeks

Doesn't seem bad but he's hardly been 'prolific' imo

Broadhead is another one of these players that Everton seem to stockpile, despite them having no chance of playing in their first team. He will soon be 25 & out of contract in the summer so will be hoping to get a contract from a Championship club, so I doubt he will want to drop down a league. Probably a good sigining if we could get him.

Looking at Whittaker's stats they are no better than Ladapo's 9 goals this season Ladapo had 10 league goals that is so he could easily end up with 20 goals a season that people keep blabbering on about.

I see Plymouth have signed a Whittaker replacement already.

Hissy Fits again ! - isn't it amazing with some that every and any Player mentioned becomes a Star Must Have ??
We HAVE to set our sights higher than this - otherwise our traditional position of Mid Table Division 3 could be beckoning once again … !!!
Some of you could be in for some shocks, not necessarily of the right kind - although we can but hope …. !!!

Plymouth are ‘off the blocks' - while we are still thinking about it !!
Some things never change with us, whatever Owners or Manager it seems.
Maybe be are only allowed Division 3 Status - just like Peterboro' only allowed any one of two Managers for life !
I'm joking of course - for those who may be slow to cotton on … !!!
Well, I hope I am ?

You realise large parts of Wikipedia are publically editable right? He's had 3 or 4 clubs today already on there and his height has gradually gone up.

Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia.
