Blues Set New iFollow Record
Wednesday, 12th Apr 2023 16:37

Town set a new record for iFollow passes sold for Monday’s 1-1 draw with Cheltenham at Whaddon Road.

The Blues sold 6,856 passes to fans watching the game on a stream at home, the most sold by a club for an EFL match this season, in addition to the 1,509 supporters in the stands.

Town previously broke the iFollow record for the season in December for the game against Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Meanwhile, Town’s U18s were beaten 3-2 by their Cardiff City counterparts at Playford Road this morning.

Cypriot U17 international midfielder Alex Graham came off the bench to net the Blues’ first goal and assisted the second, an own goal.

It's a shame iFollow is crap. I can't wait for the new service the club is promising to roll out for next season.

What exactly is wrong with iFollow?! It's a lot better than when it first started 6 or 7 years ago when it was just a straight one camera feed with no replays or commentary etc.?! In fairness disappointed that we don't get the Radio Suffolk commentary any more which is more balanced than the 'sunny side up all the time' club corporate job now (which does not appear to be the case for other clubs), but quite clearly that isn't going to change under our own steam - in fact I'm actually worried about our own service hitting the ground running immediately at the same standard without any glitches, given inexperience will take time to match iFollow's professionalism.

I though quality of iFollow for the Cheltenham game was very good compared to a lot of the games I've watched, many of which it's hard to pick out who the player is or where the ball is. Get Radio Suffolk to commentate for iFollow and it would also be an improvement.

Answering 'What exactly is wrong with IFollow?' is one of those, how long have you got? questions.

iFollow was a single camera service until this season when we (Mark Ashton) complained about it and we were given two cameras. They are operated by YTS gibbons who've either never seen a football match or would rather we didn't. The close up camera is basically from exactly the same vantage point as the wide angle one but zoomed in. It follows the ball relentlessly and pans so fast that you can't see a thing. None of the commentary team are able to access replays, so they have to guess at things that happen off the ball and even if they could, because the 2nd camera is showing exactly the same thing as the main camera (Just close in and blurry), it would be of absolutely no help.

The commentary is normally piped in radio commentary with a two second offset, ahead or behind, you can never tell. Brenner Wooley FFS, he's not impartial, he hates us, how many times do you hear 'Typical Chelsea or Everton or Man U' when things are going wrong on MOTD? Whenever Ipswich are down, Wooley is the first in with studs up. Town have added their own commentary team this season which has improved things massively but wouldn't have happened if Town TV wasn't on the horizon.

There is no pre-match, half time or full time show. There is no other content, full stop. It's complete dross and I'm glad we are binning it.

The bloke who commentates on iFollow is blind as a bat, kept going on how they hit the post in the 1st half ( was cleared near the line by Davis) and how a shot by them went out of the ground but clearly hit the advertising board at the top of the stand and bounce back onto the pitch...just saying,

The bloke on ifollow said ' Town are totally dominating' (or words to that effect) after 1 minute and 56 seconds!!!

Things certainly have moved on from those days of waiting for the scores to update on Ceefax and Teletext!

I watched the Cheltenham match and I have no complaints about it.
The other option I have is to miss the match, so I am very happy the service is available.

Town only receive 10% from fees on ifollow. Under the new Town run channel they should receive about 80-90% from money generated. Another brilliant move by Ashton.

Fat boy Tim - agree with most of your post above but have to disagree with your comment on Brenner Woolley. In my opinion he is just as fanatical about Town as we all are. His commentary is always up to the mark and he does bring excitement to the listener. Being a season ticket holder I only experience commentaries on away games and am grateful for Brenner's ability to convey a picture in words. BBC Suffolk co commentators are also streets ahead of ifollow. Luke Hyman was abysmal and Sone Aluko, although a fine player certainly will not have a second career as a pundit. The only decent co commentator I have heard on ifollow is Matt Holland.
Comments made about the ifollow commentator are so true. He misses so much through talking total garbage including at one time during an attacking move asking Sone Aluko what he and the others ate prematch. I have never listened to the ifollow audio only commentary but if it is done by this guy then listeners must be in the dark most of the time.

As a person who lives abroad I think ifollow has improved on last season and lets be honest anything for me is better than nothing, I pay my annual fee and get to see all the games home and away, I love it.
