Blues Linked With Forest Striker Surridge
Friday, 30th Jun 2023 13:28

Nottingham Forest striker Sam Surridge is the latest striker to be linked with the Blues.

Town played down interest in the 24-year-old earlier in the summer, but according to Darren Witcoop from the Daily Mirror, the Forest frontman is now on the wishlist.

Surridge, 24, played only played just 305 minutes of Premier League football last season, scoring one goal, in addition to two more in the Carabao Cup.

A year previously the Slough-born frontman played a greater role as the Tricky Trees won promotion from the Championship via the play-offs, scoring eight times in all competitions during the second half of the campaign having signed from Stoke for £2.2 million in the January window after only six months with the Potters.

Overall, the former England U21 international has made 14 starts and 36 sub appearances for Forest, scoring 11 times.

Surridge, who has a year left on his contract at the City Ground, started his career with AFC Bournemouth and while a Cherry spent time on loan at Yeovil, Oldham and Swansea.

The report also claims Town interest in Portsmouth striker Colby Bishop has cooled, although again the club has previously poured cold water on links with the former Accrington frontman.

The Blues are in the market for one, probably two, strikers this summer with Everton’s Ellis Simms one known to be on the list, while Town will almost certainly also be keen to bring former loanee George Hirst back to Portman Road from Leicester.

Meanwhile, former Town forward Zanda Siziba, 19, has joined York City having left Yeovil, who he joined in March by mutual consent.

Tactical rumours to make Everton think again?

Hardly prolific. Only 8 in half a Championship season.

Doesn't look the answer for what we want.

Doesn't fill me with great joy, this latest rumour. It also makes me think that Simms and Hirst now won't happen…..

Not sure about Sturridge, but wouldn't be against it if he was to be the second striker signed ... in addition to George Hirst.
If it was confirmed that Hirst wasn't coming back, I could see us going in for Colby Bishop. I know he's unproven at Championship level, but Hirst hasn't exactly done it there either yet, and Bishop has some similar qualities. I think he'd work well in our system, especially with the ability of the players we'd have feeding him possession & playing off him, plus he knows how to score goals. As I say, an option in that centre forward role in the event that we can't bring Hirst back.

No thanks! If he could not get regular game time in the championship under a top and experienced coach like Steve Cooper renowned for bringing through young talent he wouldn't be a good fit for us in my opinion

Trust in McKenna and Ashton to get the right ones in! Would rather have Hirst or Simms but hey ho what do I know?

Doesn't excite me at all but if he comes to us let's see…. I'm not always right… almost always right but not always… I worked out quickly that Paul Cook was an idiot but…. 😉

Monkey Blue, an idiot who made some very good signings and laid the foundations for our current form

I got him on Football Manager. He scored 9 in the first 5 games in the Championship!

To be fair, his attributes line up quite well with Hurst from the FM database. Tall, quick, good in the air and 24 years old. How that compares to reality I've no idea!

Hirst would still be a good permanent addition as he looks like he could improve further and we know fitted well into the dressing room/team chemistry.

No thanks.

We need Hirst and a quality defender.

Surprised at the negativity above. I know little about him, but saw his hattrick against Swansea and looks ok? Either way, maybe a red herring, but in KmK I trust!

SaxonBlue74… I doubt given the budget and numbers that anyone wouldn't have signed some good players. When he was moaning afterwards it seems he wasn't so involved in the signings anyway. If he got who he wanted why was he complaining there was no transfer room and that's why the team were awful under him?
