Town Launch New Kits
Saturday, 1st Jul 2023 08:30

Town have launched their home and away kits for the 2023/24 season, inspired by the strips the Blues wore when gaining promotion to the Premier League in 1999/00 and then finishing fifth in the top flight the following season, and with funds going to the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, the charity supported by Blues legend Marcus Stewart.

The two Umbro kits - the traditional blue at home and the orange worn away during 1999/00, the latter also appearing to have a nod towards the 1991/92 third strip - are available from this morning and Town will wear them for the first time in the pre-season friendly at Felixstowe & Walton this afternoon.

Stewart and teammate Martjn Reuser appear in a promotional video along with members of the current men’s and women’s squad.

The club will be donating £2 from every home shirt sold during July to the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, the charity backed by Stewart, who revealed last year that he is battling the disease.

The shirts are again sponsored by Ed Sheeran, who also features in the video, while the Running Towards Adversity message is on the inside of the collar and the three stars representing the club’s major trophies are on the back.

Paul Macro, Town’s head of retail, told the club site: “During the first two kit releases of the contract with Umbro we always planned to take inspiration from the past in order to create something new.

“We did that last season, taking inspiration from the early 90s to create two fresh designs, and this season we have focused on the iconic 1999/00 season as the foundation for the new kits.

“This season, we wanted the home kit to have a clean and fresh look after quite a heavy graphic was used in the 2022/23 shirts, so with this in mind we ran a subtle Umbro jacquard throughout the entire front panel of the shirt.

“The away shirt then became the focus for a more graphic orientated design, incorporating a classic Umbro pattern into the front.”

In addition to the men’s, women’s and youth sizes, children’s mini-kits are also on sale.

Planet Blue is open for sales until 5pm today with long queues having been pictured outside the ground this morning and then from 10am-3pm on Sunday. The new kits can be ordered online here.

Be nice if those that don't buy the home shirt through choice still make the donation to The Marcus Stewart Fund.
Personally I like it and the collar means I can get away with wearing it for golf.

really like the away shirt, but the home shirt falls flat imo, its a shame as this season is a BIG season for us after years of woe. The shirt could have made more of a statement .

Linkboy13. You clearly dont get the whole point of the home shirt. Like the 1999/2000 shirt, but, and the pictures don't show it, but some patterning on the main part of the shirt. Plus of course the Marcus Stewart connection too. Agree, not as good as last seasons, but always gonna be hard to improve on that. But if u see it for real rather than just in a pic on ur fone, I think you'll find it's better than you think

Well there's just no pleasing some people, some of you would moan about winning the lottery. At least there is some thought behind it, imagine how difficult it is, season after season, to come out with something new. I love the nod to the 99/00 season, because I think we will be back in the Prem this time next year.
Lots of love from an optimist xx (Pessimists you may need a dictionary for that one!!)

Len brennan. Judging by the queues to get into the shop, both prior to opening and when I finally got out of the shop, they wont be disappointed. The racks of the home kit downstairs, emptied in about 2 minutes flat. Dont think there'll be any left by the end of the day somehow.

Don't like that home shirt. Hate the collar and what's with that wide white strip over the shoulders? Horrible!
The away shirt is much better though.

Blues1 - lets wait and see how the numbers stack up over time.
Those in the queue this morning were always going to be there. The true success of last season was with those that bought more than one new shirt & the online sales; making your case based on the excitement of the doors opening for them being revealed on general release is somewhat shortsighted I would suggest.
Perhaps you'll prove me wrong by the time the new season kicks off though.

Love that home shirt. Away shirt looks great on Ed Sheeran (it is so his colour), less so on XXL me, but I have bought both anyway!

How can people get so worked up about a shirt? As long as it is blue with white shorts and Town are winning, I am perfectly happy.

I hate orange so very disappointed with that, home kit is OK & does resemble the Wembley/promo shirt. Best thing about the article was seeing Marcus S & Martin Reuser, great they still have huge affection for the club.

Away kit is alright but not sure about the broad white stripe on the home kit...

Both look great to me. The classic shirts from the past only look good because we achieved something with them, that will decide their place on the list.
