Royle on Late Win
Royle on Late Win

Town manager Joe Royle claimed his Town team have played better and lost recently after his side's dramatic late comeback at Leicester City. Royle pointed to the recent home game against Rotherham which the Blues dominated but somehow lost.

Royle was pleased with his players: "There have been occasions recently when we have outplayed sides and lost.

"Look at the Rotherham game, we had 20 shots on target and only managed one goal.

"This game was a contrast in styles. Although we outpassed them for long periods we never looked like winning, so then to score with our only two shots on target is very nice.

"That makes it four points against the top two sides in five days and that is a big sign we are getting things right.

"Leicester were very lively up front with three big players who can be very physical.

"I had challenged my players to stand up to them and that is exactly what they did.

"The defence was superb because, although they had a lot of pressure, we restricted them to scoring with just a penalty."

Royle has also denied that Darren Ambrose has been left on the bench recently because he has already been sold: "There is no subterfuge and nothing in the theory put forward that I hear about.

"The lad has had a rest and we have been going well recently and I've told him he will get his chance and he has come on again and done very well."

The Town boss also had praise for keeper Andy Marshall who hopes to be fit for the Millwall game despite picking up a leg injury which appeared to hamper his kicking at Leicester: "Andy played very well and I was pleased for him He made a fantastic save in the first half when he tipped one on the bar from Deane."

As well as Marshall there is concern about Jim Magilton who is still suffering with a groin problem. One or two others have minor knocks which are not thought to be too serious.

Leicester manager Micky Adams was annoyed at his team's late capitulation: "Ipswich are a good side and you can't afford to switch off against them.

"That is exactly what we did in the last 10 minutes and got mugged for it.

"Perhaps after they got the equaliser we should have shut up shop, but we are not very good at doing that.

"But I can't afford to get angry because we've got an important game in just 48 hours and that can't be a bad thing after losing like this."
