Blues Launch TownTV and App
Friday, 21st Jul 2023 17:01

The Blues have launched their new TownTV service and official app.

TownTV, which the club are producing in partnership with QTV, an award-winning production company, replaces the EFL’s iFollow through which the club has provided its video services for many years.

TownTV will feature behind-the-scenes footage, extended features and highlights for £5.99 a month.

From the game against Stoke City at Portman Road on Saturday 12 August, both home and away fixtures will be presented from the new TownTV studio which has been built in the old gym at Portman Road over the summer.

Midweek matches not selected for live broadcast in the UK will be available to watch at an additional cost of £10.

Fans who sign up to TownTV prior to 28 July will be able to watch that day’s two 60-minute friendlies at the Innsbruck Cup in Austria against Bundesliga sides RB Leipzig and Werder Bremen at no additional cost.

The two games at Tivoli Stadium will be broadcast live on TownTV with multi-camera coverage, dedicated commentary and live pitchside presentation with James Tzanoudakis and Matt Holland.

Blues legend Holland and lifelong Town fan Tzanoudakis, who previously featured on iFollow as well as having worked for Bein Sports, ESPN, Eurosport and Netflix, and early in his career BBC Radio Suffolk, are among TownTV’s hosts, along with James Kirtland, a former Soccer AM presenter nown as 'Curly'.

Former Town players will give their expert analysis in punditry roles throughout the season, while Alfie Indra, who was involved with the Town media team last season, will be involved, focusing on the FanZone on a matchday.

ITFC Women’s all-time top scorer Natasha Thomas will also be working with the TownTV team, providing tactical analysis and progress updates on the Tractor Girls.

Omari Hutchinson’s first interview since signing on a season-long loan from Chelsea yesterday is currently available on TownTV along with more than an hour of behind-the-scenes footage and interviews from the pre-season trip to Austria.

International fans, those outside of the UK and the Republic of Ireland, can subscribe to TownTV for £19.99 a month.

Overseas supporters will be able to watch all of the Town’s games not selected for live broadcast in the UK.

The new app, which is available on available on iOS and Android, features news, live scores and exclusive videos, as well as giving access to the club’s online shop and ticketing.

Quite a reaction from fans abroad.

iFollow was woeful.

You’re going to be getting a much better official club coverage with way more bells and whistles, and for a bundled price that makes games cheaper than we’ll pay in the UK.

Think you’ve all overreacted, it’s a good deal supporting the club you love.

Agree it’d be good to get a TV app.

I’m in the UK but I’ll sign up to the £5.99 - to support the club.

Got to say, rightly or wrongly, having to pay £5.99 to watch player interviews has irked me.
Love the TownTV concept, behind the scenes etc but to expect fans to pay for basic interviews when we spend so much on travel/tickets etc doesn't sit right with me.

So ITFCSERBIA, that means there will be no coverage for uk residents at weekends at all, meaning you will see more games than I can. There is nothing in the 5.99 package about showing coverage, only commentary, which I can get for nothing on local radio. My point still stands, £20 per month is cheaper than £10 per game was.

Overseas followers are really hammered .
It Costs more than I follow and now you have to pay the very hefty sky charges/subscription on top for the best games undoubtedly such as Sunderland. If we play as I envisage they will be taking more games . There needs to be a Q&A up soon to Sad as a lifelong ITFC fan living abroad who is moving into retirement I have to consider is this worth it?

Needs a QA very quickly.
Disappointed costs more and will be less games as Sky take more especially if we are doing as well as I expect so to watch games you need a big sky subscription as well. Lot of people abroad are retired and to expect two subscriptions to Town and Sky is a step too far for some

I think the club has done a poor job communicating this and considering international fans. Does anyone know if this is only available on Apple ios or Android or can you watch through the web site with any Web broweser. Would be nice if they offered a free trial for 2 weeks like many other subscription services.

I would liked to have a basic international subscription so I can at least see interviews with Manager and players and recaps.
These were all included on the web site prior to TownTV but now we have to pay. I would be quite happy to pay a modest fee for this instead of only having the option of a premium subscription

algarvefan TV doesn't compare to live matches!
It seems like a very greedy move to charge so much and not have a season ticket.
I'm not impressed with the customer service at ITFC at the moment. I ordered two away kits and the postie charged me 34 EUR for tax and a handling charge. I emailed the club and they basically didn't care and said out of 3000 deliveries into the EU, I was the only one who complained!

It wouldn't be good to get a TV app, it is essential for a premium product with a very premium price to play on your TV!

TV rights are a total scam. There should be a way to allow fans to pay for a package to only watch their club including all the matches. I don't care at all about any other clubs, certainly not enough to pay for live matches.

Just been on the Arsenal web site (my Dad's team and so my "second" team).
No subscription fees there to watch interviews, match highlights, etc.
Just saying; won't be switching my allegiance but .....

I really hope Town have not shot themselves in the foot. It would be a pity if the feel-good factor that has been built up over the last 1½ years were to be tarnished. £6 a month for UK fans to watch news and clips doesn't seem too bad, but however you spin it, international fans will have to pay at least double what they were paying before. Many of these are people who have supported the Town for years and who, apart from paying international prices to watch matches on TV, additionally spend a lot of money in travel and accommodation costs coming over for some live matches during the season. Sadly, we live in a corporate world, but ITFC has put in a lot of effort towards portraying itself as a family/community club. I'm not sure they have got the balance right here. Disappointed!

Was looking forward to this. But it's a big thumbs down from me for that pricing structure.

People also forgetting, EADT are now charging £6-7 a month for access to basically one article a day and some match write-ups.

I’m sure both TWTD and EADT (who haven’t covered the TownTV launch at all yet - lol) will give insight into player interviews etc.l for those that genuinely can’t afford access.

Most people can though, it’s just a question of it they want to.

Up to them!

I never have been bothered with internet sites showing football unless I can watch it on a TV screen, without the hassle of trying to connect HDMI leads to the TV. If Town games were live on Now TV or Amazon Prime, I maybe interested. But watching football on an IPhone or laptop isn’t for me.

Disgraceful that us overseas fans are being hammered. I watched every game last year, despite most being at 3am here in Oz...

For ITFC to over double the price of Ifollow is a clear rip off, especially when we won't be able to view games on sky, of which there will be a few considering we are now championship...

NOT HAPPY. And gutted that we are being ripped off...

I am glad to be an 80 year old technology dinosaur. I don’t get all worked up about this. As a lifelong season ticket holder I attend every home match and I’ll be watching all the away Sky games. When games weren’t on iFollow I was perfectly happy to listen to excellent Brenner Woolley commentary.. If non Saturday away matches are available as a stand alone purchase on TownTV then I shall subscribe as I did with iFollow.
As regards a monthly subscription to listen to news and interviews, I am perfectly happy to get all the news and views I want from the wonderful TWTD website, my essential daily reading for all things ITFC. However I do think prices a bit steep for all out overseas fans.

I agree with writers who think that having applications to watch matches on TV sets is essential. I don't want to watch on a desktop PC or a tablet. I sent a question about this to Mark Ashton in April. His reply stated that we will be able to watch on TV but as far as I can see the applications don't yet exist. Perhaps give him a nudge if you agree with me.

I was hoping to sign up for a one off 150pound here in Sweden to watch the games.
20 a month is too much, luckily it's still legal here to get IPTV...

BurleysGloryDays We pay for the matches and the kits and food at the ground. The interviews and highlights should be out there for free to stoke interest. I hope it blows up in their faces. I don't like that Mark Ashton has been positioning himself and the club as fan friendly, when they go and do something like this.

International supporters, I understand your complaints, well some of them! I'm happy I have paid my first month and will do so all season, I will get to see the games live and those games that Sky pick I shall go to my local bar and watch, life's not so bad, it's how you view it that counts and unlike ifollow, all the money I spend s going to my club, that's the important bit for me!!

I am not sure I understand the problem for overseas fans.
Last year with iFollow at £10 (if I am reading the posts correctly) you got a match most Saturdays & at least one mid week game, league one standard most of the time.
So 4 5 or 6 matches a month, about £2.00 a match, live at home. That seems very low, great value.
You would get this season, championship standard football for about £4.00 a game, lots more cameras and better coverage overall.
I would suggest 2023 2024 is about right for international fans.
Last year it was under priced, maybe, cameras etc.

20 quid a month… wow.. as many above, that’s a big hike and to be honest, too much… I spend half my life offshore on crap connection where the streaming doesn’t really work.. so 240 for “some games”??? Maybeez not.. iFollow was good.. feels like they’re getting greedy with this already?? Shame.

Naylorsrightboot My tablet won't download it. So I'm supposed to watch on a tiny phone screen?! Or I can navigate the browser on my TV remote? This is really poor. It is not a premium service if it's not presented in a premium manner.
