Ainsworth: We Can Beat Town If We Play as We Have Been
Friday, 18th Aug 2023 16:08

QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth believes his side is capable of beating the Blues, despite knowing what Town are all about from his time in charge of Wycombe Wanderers.

The table-topping Blues, unbeaten in league action since January, visit Loftus Road for QPR’s first Championship home game of the season with the West Londoners having had mixed results in their two matches on the road so far, losing 4-0 at Watford on the opening day before last week’s 2-1 victory at Cardiff City.

“Ipswich are a strong team who many people are tipping to be up there,” Ainsworth told the Rangers official website.

“Kieran McKenna has done an incredible job in getting Ipswich out of a tough division in League One. He’s a good guy who’s got his own style.

“I came up against him at Wycombe and I know what his teams are capable of – we had some good battles.

“He’ll also know that my QPR team will be committed and I fully believe we can win the game if we carry on playing like we have been. I’m really enjoying the way the boys are starting to grasp things now.”

The Rs are expected to be without striker Lyndon Dykes, who picked up an injury in Wednesday’s last-gasp 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Norwich City.

“It was one of those things, Ainsworth reflected. “Initial reports suggested he wasn’t as bad as first feared and taking precaution was the right way to go – but we’re continuing to monitor him.

“I’m hoping everyone bar Jimmy Dunne [shoulder injury sustained in pre-season] will be in contention for Saturday. We’ll obviously continue to assess things.

“The fans are excited to see Jack Colback. Chris Willock and Jake Clarke-Salter are also hoping to be involved this week – even though Jake might need some minutes playing for the development squad first.”

Lol Comical stuff. The question is does the main man midfielder Dozzell get dropped? Is the main striker fit enough? Not even 30 goals between them in 200 appearances, Dozzell yet to score for QPR. These are the 2 dead cert starters normally……..

Can't believe Colback is still playing.

What minute will their goalkeeper sit down for the first time? 20th minute?

Firstly Mr Ainsworth you need a good haircut! But seriously let’s let the football do the talking!
Hopefully a team that plays easy on the eye football will prevail over root one football. COYB’s

I’m really keen we don’t come across as cocky, personally I take no games for granted and as they come, but when you look at the comments of these other clubs forums it’s the same every time, absolutely convinced they are going to beat us! At what point will they stop considering us a guaranteed win, incredible!

Anyone who thinks they can't beat us is living in cloud cuckoo land. Literally could go either way.
Nomore4. " we're the in form team in europe"? If you count last season, yes. But we're 2 lge games into the season. And while we are playing very well, let's not get carried away, just yet.

I have had a scoreline in my head ever since I saw this fixture, don't normally so might stick a quid on that. No, I can't say what it is, haha, might jinx it.

I loved seeing Towns 2nd vs Stoke described by bbc with one word, Ruthless!! Been a while, COYB!!

Sorry blues1 IMO QPR really are poor….have been on a downward spiral over at least 3 years.
Lucky to avoid relegation last season, it will come this. Supporters it would appear, ready to turn after only a few games in……
I predict the same kind of defeat the last time they played anyone decent such as there 1st game.
And yes best in Europe on continuous run. To me that means we win V QPR.

Ainsworth did a pretty fantastic job at WW and I think he's a good character in the game. I'd like to see him sort things out at QPR, it's a decent club and despite the slightly restricted view from some seats a good ground to go to

Decent club? According to latest accounts. It owes over 11m on its training ground.
6m to the EFL. Over 10m in fines for overspending in previous seasons. Over 2M on transfer instalments…..now due. And 68m in loans.
I struggle to see anything decent about QPR currently as they head to L1.

It’s going to be like a League One game, he’ll park the bus, waste time, 30% possession, and look for a 1 - 0 smash and grab. We need the first goal, and as early as possible.

We can beat Professor Snape and his route 1 team- COYB!

Hatman2 I agree with your comments, a typical league 1 performance from Rangers.
Mind you since we lost to them our team has been strengthened. The only way they will beat us is with a little piece of good fortune

By losing I mean WW last December

Hope the ref is strong on the time wasting. If our bookings are anything to go by this season you could see a sending off for qpr if they start the fun and games early. Can't see anything other than a win for us.

Didn't realise Ainsworth is a part time stand up comic as well, probably better at that than as a coach. We know exactly what to expect. I can't see Dozell having any impact against Morsy & Luongo, men against a boy so I expect Colback to play. Morsy will show who's boss very early. QPR are a team on a downward spiral, nothing much going well for them & Ainsworth is not the answer. If hes happy getting stocked by Watford 4-0 there's no hope for them.

Loving the confidence from us fans, but QPR are not a crap side. they were running away with the championship at the start of last season then went on a terrible run ending in a relegation scrap.
Cant see the boss letting the players go into this one complacent or over confident. I see us imposing our game on them but if they fluke a goal it will put their backs up.

They have a very young side so an early goal for us could set the writing on the wall for them. First goal very important.

COME ON YOU BLUES ⚽
