Town Draw Fulham at Home in Carabao Cup
Wednesday, 27th Sep 2023 22:31

Town have drawn Premier League Fulham at home in round four of the Carabao Cup.

The Blues, who came from two goals behind to beat Wolves 3-2 at Portman Road last night, are in the last 16 of the competition for the first time in 13 years.

Fulham, currently 11th in the top flight, beat Norwich City 2-1 at Craven Cottage this evening to reach round four.

Round four ties will be played in the week commencing October 30th with it appearing likely that the Town-Fulham match will be on the Wednesday with the Whites in Premier League action against Brighton on the preceding Sunday.

The teams last met in the competition at the second round stage in September 2020 when the Cottagers ran out 1-0 winners, Aleksandar Mitrović the scorer of the game's only goal.

The clubs also faced one another in the tournament in a two-legged tie in 1973 when the first leg in London ended 2-2 before the Blues won 2-1 at Portman Road

In 1996, again over two legs, the Craven Cottage match ended 1-1 before the game in Suffolk ended 4-2 to the Blues.

Would like to see us really go for it and field our strongest available team, it's only 3 additional games before the final.

Fulham at home is winnable and the way the 4th round draw has gone means there's going to be at least 2 more very beatable teams in the quarters.

Does the winner still get into Europe!?

Tractorfactor Steve I couldn't agree more. The TownTV commentary is so banal. Can't see why they didn't use BBC Suffolk for that and cut to their own pundits before, at HT and after

thecheek, I get where you are coming from. I think there has to be an important balance between league and cup. If we are in with a chance in the league, then surely that has to be the priority. Then again I would definitely take a cup win and Championship survival. The other point is that it would be very demoralizing if the manager suddenly decides not to trust the players who were able to do the job against Wolves.
I have my opinions on all of these issues, but I would always defer to KM's judgement when I would be questioning anyone called Paul.

It is probably the case that they couldn't easily sync. the radio commentary to the delayed town tv.
ie: Those watching would be listening to action before they saw it. It wouldn't work.

Some good draws there. Kinda wish Chelsea had drawn Liverpool, could do with one of them out of the competition next round

I hope KM sticks with the team that have got us this far in the CC, they deserve their opportunity.

Firstly any home draw is a good draw as it takes away the issue of travelling for the players and fans and secondly we are strong at home inside a packed out PR stadium. A very winnable match against very strong opponents who play excellent football. This looks like being another very entertaining match. COYB

A tough but winnable tie, would just like to comment on why town fans are having ago at Freddie Ladapo. Had a guy shouting his head off and calling him s**t behind us on Tuesday night.
He was certainly the best since Daryl Murphy was leading the line, and with Hirst seemingly McKenna’s first choice now, but Freddie is still putting the goals away when picked.
Why is it that some seem to have a need to knock players and moan when so much is going for this squad, it absolutely beats me.

There isn't a route into Europe. The powers that be stitched that one up decades ago to ensure it's an extra place for the big clubs in the Premier League rather than a reward for an incredible achievement for a smaller team (yawn), even before they more recently did the same to the FA Cup.

Also - it's four additional games to make the final as the semi is over two legs. Personally I think Fulham might be a bridge too far, but after my heart is only just de-escalating from the other night who knows? Anything is possible.

winning and losing are both frames of mind for both players and fans

Boring old f**rt story coming up. I went to the first Fulham game in '73 (in London doing my first job) got off the bus in Hammersmith Road to find hordes leaving Craven Cottage. A river fog had come down and the game had been called off. As it happened the game was literally played the next night. I never made it - came down with Chicken Pox overnight but after a bit of tlc in Suffolk I recovered in time to see us win at PR.
