Tuanzebe Handed League Debut at Rotherham
Tuesday, 7th Nov 2023 19:18

Town boss Kieran McKenna has made three changes for this evening’s rearranged live-on-Sky game at Rotherham United with Axel Tuanzebe coming into the side for his league debut alongside Marcus Harness and Kayden Jackson.

Tuanzebe takes over at centre-half for Luke Woolfenden, who is missing from the XI in the league for the first time since the game at Cambridge in February.

The 25-year-old is on the bench, while Jackson comes in wide on the right from Omari Hutchinson, who is also among the subs.

Harness is on the left for Nathan Broadhead with the Wales international not in the squad having been ill.

Brandon Williams, who missed Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Birmingham due to illness, is back on the bench.

Of Town’s three ex-Millers, George Hirst starts and Freddie Ladapo and Dominic Ball are on the bench.

Rotherham make two changes from the team which drew 1-1 at home to QPR on Saturday with full debutant Daniel Ayala and Sam Nombe coming into the team, while Jordan Hugill and club captain Sean Morrison dropping to the bench.

Rotherham United: Johansson, Lembikisa, Bramall, Ayala, Cafu, Clucas, Onyedinma, Rathbone (c), Odoffin, Tiehi, Nombe. Subs: Phillips, Eaves, Hugill, Kelly, Lindsay, Morrison, Revan, Appiah.

Town: Hladky, Clarke, Tuanzebe, Burgess, Davis, Morsy (c), Luongo, Jackson, Chaplin, Harness, Hirst. Subs: Walton, Woolfenden, Williams, Ball, Taylor, Humphreys, Hutchinson, Scarlett, Ladapo. Referee: Graham Scott (Oxfordshire).

Big call dropping Woolfy. In my opinion the classiest centre back outside the Premier.

Man management. Wolfy needs a break just like everyone and he will be more required on Saturday. I'm sure Axel will prove everyone wrong.

I honestly don’t get this Woolfie love in on here. He’s an ok defender. But many on here think he’s the next messiah for some reason.
But Axel (once up to his match fitness levels) is a whole new higher level. Give him his chance.

For all the plaudits given to Woolfie by fans on here, he’s not once ( I believe) been in the EFL Team of the Week. He’s not so good that he’s been called up for any International squad.

I honestly think Baggot will end up partnering Axel next season. With Woolfie : Burgess as back up.
Bring on the down arrows and comments I couldn’t give a damn. If you maintain the “In Kieran we Trust”, then trust him now. There really are better CB’s than Woolfenden, and we have TWO at Ipswich right now.

Oldblue, let's hope. All opinions ain't it, just thought what's the reasoning bringing him in and not using him.

Completely agree Saxon. He grew into the game! I saw some good passes and defending. Made one mistake so far tonight, but so did Mr Williams in his first few games. I believe once up to speed he will be a good addition.
