Leicester Return to Top
Wednesday, 13th Dec 2023 22:59

Town dropped back to second in the Championship table following Leicester City’s 3-2 victory over Millwall at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Blues temporarily climbed above the Foxes by defeating Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road last night.

Leeds losing 1-0 at Sunderland on Tuesday means Town are now 10 points in front of the third-placed Whites.

The Blues are next in action on Saturday when they host local rivals Norwich City, who beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 at Carrow Road this evening, in the East Anglian derby.

People and stats say we are punching above our weight. May it last ? Can we strengthen in Jan? Can we keep this going ? I really hope Netflix are on it, we are a fairy tale in real life. Go love town❤️

leicester like leeds and the saints are of course cheating, and get a great big pile of cash that we dont get

We'll be top of the pile again by 2.30 Saturday, and this time we get to keep it until Monday night!

Parachute payments should be means tested. Leicester had so many players to sell that they didn't need the parachute payments. It basically doubles the advantage.

It won't be too many years until other clubs are moaning about us and our parachute payments

Suffolk n Proud , You don't get parachute payments in the top half of the Premier.

I don’t care about other teams results - if we carry on doing what we have been doing since KM arrived we will be just fine. We are bound to strengthen in January too.

@magnus68 I hope you're joking about Netflix. Why on earth would you want that distraction? Pretty sure Mark Ashton made a comment about leaving that sort of thing to other clubs while we concentrate of what we do best on the latest Life's a pitch podcast.

couldnt see Leicester slipping up last night. i listened to carrots game last night, , i pray we give them a thumping but 1-0 will do. Loyal heart says will win BUT i wouldnt underestimate the budgies, we need to get on top of them from the off and not them settle, although they seem shaky in defense they are not so sloppy up front. i also think they will set out to rattle Morsey into doing something stupid , If we stay focussed and dont get dragged into a slugging match we will be ok, On our game we are too fast for them . Hope our boys have their shooting boots on . COYB

Leicester aren't the concern, they can do as they please.

The main positive of last night was Southampton dropping points, as with Leeds on Tuesday.

It's the chasing pack we need to monitor, keeping that between 7-12 point gap over the course of the Xmas period will be tricky, so any dropped points from those immediately below should be welcomed.

We should have the mindset of keeping up and passing Leicester even though we would all obviously take second right now. It is great that we have the gap to Leeds, but we can't fixate on it. I'm sure the players won't because when you watch a gap closing it makes you feel like they will inevitably catch up. If we just chalk up a loss to a bad day at the office and then attack the next few games we will be more than alright!

We have to play Leicester twice yet, it is in our hands.

With our points in hand , Leeds have to win 4 games more than us, with us winning none..so they have 21 games or less to overtake us..!!..they will tick away quickly!!!

There are lots of games left to go. I believe that Sheff Wednesday were 10 points ahead of us last season in a three horse race. However, thanks to Super Kieran McKenna we will continue to improve, so it will be difficult for anyone to catch us, as we are relentless in our pursuit of excellence!

i think current cushion is a blessing right now , but maintaining will be hard, Leicester and Leeds matches are going to be very influential on or position, points gained would be brilliant but lose those two games and the hounds will smell blood . THAT said we have a great squad and manager , and they wont just roll over . COYB

Lets not be concerned about ‘what others do’ - there’s enough evidence already that WE need ‘to keep Winning’ - so lets make sure WE do just that.
Then nothing, or anyone else matters !!

The Norwich game obviously feels important, hugely important and meaningful as a fan and we need and expect three points given our form. But, the Leeds and Leicester games are the really crucial games. If we lose those two matches then we still have a bit of a cushion, but it’ll affect confidence and will give impetus to those chasing. But, if we can get something out of those two games and follow them up with a convincing win against QPR then we’ll be fine and will maintain a significant buffer going into the New Year. That will give a psychological boost to us and similarly be dispiriting to those chasing as we enter the downhill stage of the season (I always think after Christmas it’s all downhill to May)…

…But, what do I know about football other than under KM we’re playing the game amazingly well. If I really knew what I was talking about I’d be earning a lot more money than I do managing my own team.

yes Global, thats how i see it we really need to bag something from Leicester and Leeds , draws would do that keeps everything stable but wins would be great . Narbwich have been a pain in the butt for years we now need to dish them some grief .With them its kinda personal. COYB

Current form table makes interesting reading. We are top above Leicester, Leeds and Narch.
Tomorrow is not a given , they are on a bit of a run but we need to beat them for all sorts of reasons, and we will.

Beat Norwich, Leicester, Leeds, and that is a massive statement of ability and intent, which puts us in the real Driving Seat.
And make no mistake, we need to be up for all Three !
