Edwards Leaves Town By Mutual Consent
Thursday, 11th Jan 2024 13:35

Winger Kyle Edwards has left the club following the mutual termination of his contract, which was due to run until the summer.

The news comes as little surprise after Oxford, where he had been on loan, revealed on Monday that he would be spending the second half of the season recuperating from his hamstring injury with them, despite his spell having been cut short.

Edwards, who seems likely to join the U’s as soon as he is over the injury which is set to keep him out until April, joined Town on a free transfer after leaving West Brom in the summer of 2021.

The former England U16, U17 and U20 international went on to make 23 starts and 40 sub appearances, scoring three goals, and was a member of the squad which won promotion from League One last season.

Meanwhile, academy midfielder or right-back Ben Haddoch has joined Ipswich Wanderers on loan having recently ended a spell with Stowmarket Town. Fellow youngster Paul Moodie has ended his spell at Humber Doucy Lane.

The club have showed class releasing him. It means he's a free agent, and if he gets fit before May he can sign for OU before the end of the season. Gifted, but shame about end product sometimes. I'm glad our club has been fair with him.

A very exciting & entertaining player. An infectious bloke as well by all accounts with that huge smile. Good luck to him wherever he goes & I really do hope his career takes off.
if his injury problem can be resolved. As for Suffolkboy's comment, well you seem to have set yourself up as some kind of sports psychologist, do you know Kyle, have you been on a training pitch with him? I suggest you keep your unwarranted & unqualified comments to yourself. I'm sure the decision was taken by the club with everyone's best interests at heart, under our present regime we look after players & they leave on excellent terms. Greg Leigh left & certainly has no malice towards ITFC.

All the very best of luck Kyle. So sorry it didn’t work out for you at Town. You’re a top bloke and fantastic player. I suspect ALL Town fans hope you get over your injury quickly and get signed up at a club (Oxford?) we’re you’ll be a key player.

It sounds like a very good and sensible bit of business. In essence, Edwards is a League One player on a very good contract. Because of injury, he won't be playing football again until April at the earliest, and the mutual termination of his contract, enables him to negotiate a favourable new contract and helps reduce Town's wage bill. Given the constraints of FFP, and Town's desire/need to strengthen the squad during the current transfer window, makes the "culling" of staff essential ....with, I would suggest more to follow. My guess is that Lee Evans, Sone Aluko and Dom Ball are on the "exit ramp"!! JMHO of course!

Monarch Blue: I would tend to agree with you on this. There’s no room in the modern game for sympathy anymore. It’s a hard nosed business at the end of the day now.

Suffolkboy. I think suggesting he's lazy is unfair to say the least. You don't get to his level of skill and fitness in the game through being lazy. To succeed as a professional footballer takes a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication. Good luck and thank you Kyle
