Town Confirm Moore Loan Signing
Thursday, 1st Feb 2024 19:28

Town have confirmed the loan re-signing of striker Kieffer Moore.

A second striker has been the Blues’ priority on transfer deadline day with Moore to add to Ali Al-Hamadi, who was recruited from AFC Wimbledon earlier in the week.

“It’s great to finally get it over the line because it’s been a long time coming during the window,” Moore told TownTV.

“I remember my first spell here and I’ve gone away and worked very hard on myself during that time, so I’m delighted to be back and can’t wait to get going.

“I was really excited when I spoke to everyone here and now I just want to meet the group, get out on the pitch and contribute.”

Manager Kieran McKenna added: “We are delighted to have signed a striker with real pedigree at this level, as well as in the Premier League and at international level.

“Kieffer will bring some different attributes to the squad and comes with experience and quality, while also showing a real hunger to join the club and help the group.”

Town CEO Mark Ashton said: “We’re delighted to have completed a move for a player who was always our number one target.

“It’s been a real team effort from a wide range of people at the football club, including Luke Werhun, Gary Probert and the recruitment team, while Kieran McKenna and his coaching staff have all played their parts.

“We’re delighted to have got it across the line during a challenging window, with not a lot of movement across the leagues, and bring a current Premier League striker to the club.”

Moore, whose signing is the last business of the Blues’ transfer window, was previously at Town from a year from January 2017 but made only 11 sub appearances without scoring.

Capped 39 times by Wales, scoring 12 times, Moore had been recruited from then-National League Forest Green Rovers for £25,000 having been on loan at Torquay, also a fifth tier side, prior to his move.

The 6ft 5in tall striker’s career really took off during a loan spell with Rotherham, then in League One, in the first half of 2017/18 - having impressed as a sub for Town against the Millers the previous season - and in the January moved on to Barnsley, also in League One, for £750,000.

Spells in the Championship with Wigan and Cardiff followed, as well as senior Wales caps, before Moore moved on to AFC Bournemouth for a fee which could ultimately rise to £5 million in January 2022 and helped the Cherries to promotion to the Premier League.

However, his opportunities have been limited over the last two seasons, the Torquay-born striker has made only 15 starts and 29 sub appearances for the Dorset side in total, scoring 10 goals, and it was always expected he would move on to a Championship side during this window.

Moore, who will wear the number 24 shirt, is Town’s fourth signing of the window following on from the loan additions of Jeremy Sarmiento and Lewis Travis, and the permanent addition of Al-Hamadi.

It was nail biting for a time but congratulations to all concerned for getting this over the line.
In what has been a difficult transfer window for all clubs, I believe we have done very well. Sarmiento has got off to a great start and promises much for rest of season. Travis is experienced and capable cover for Sam and Massimo, while we have added two strikers, one with PL and International experience, the other who already has international experience and a potential to grow into the club.
Added to the ever improving Hutchinson I am happy that Kieran will mould these arrivals into the Ipswich style so with all this speculation out of the way let’s look forward now to rest of season.

Great news and remember he's familiar with playing with Wes and Broady

Very happy with this signing. If we give him the right service he will score plenty of goals and we will have Al Hamadi champing at the bit aswell.

Hope he is OK playing in front of 29k fans, he will not be used to that at home club level?

Excellent addition to the squad. I have to admit I would probably have preferred Gallagher as he is more in the Hirst mould, but Moore will certainly bring his experience and different attributes to the team, obviously his heading ability will be a big plus for the side. He's a totally different player to the one who arrived here 6/7 years ago.
Well done Ashton and co for getting this one over the line.

A great transfer window with a blend of hungry potential & experienced players in the positions that needed a bit of help. Maybe another defender but trust in the clubs management & players!
Let push on now & enjoy a fantastic rest of the season.

He’s not very quick or the most technical but he holds the ball up well and his height gives us something we have badly lacked. I have lost count of the number of crosses coming in from both wings where there is no one with the ability to seriously challenge in the air. His presence means opposing defences will have something else to think about.

And as it seems was always our 1st choice. Both from what Ashton says there, and the fact Keiffer was clearly talking to us for a while. Saying itsztaken a while in the window to get it done. So guess we were actually trying to line up Gallagher as an,alternative if we couldn't get this deal done. Just as well we did mind you, as it appears we wouldn't have got Gallagher neither, with Blackburn refusing to sell.

Welcome back ! He was never given a chance with us previously and selling him after he was banging in the goals, while on loan was a huge mistake. I have seen him play for Bournemouth in the Premier League and his power, aerial ability and hold up play is just what we need.

In my view, the best capture in the Chapionship in this window. Stunning, well done all involved. He might be our Marcus Stewart.2. Starter saturday, minimum 1 goal :)

Brandon Williams is back too, so that's it for us. 25 man squad sorted. I quite like our chances especially if KMK does what he usually does and brings out the best in each of his players.

Actually him leaving made him a better player, we now have a premier league quality striker with us , he wouldn't be a premier league striker if he'd stayed!

Once again superb signings in the January window!

4-1 win against Preston coming up..

As a quick question, who was the last player we signed with a bigger reputation than Kieffer?

I ask in genuine curiosity because I'm struggling to think of who it might be. I've been a fan for 40 years and most of the great players I can think of weren't all that well known before we brought them in. I'll kick off with Ivan Campo, so that's 2008.

Great Signing -

Some older supporters will remember us
signing John O’Rourke, whose goals at the
back end of the season saw us to winning
the old second division in 1968.

Similar player -

All the best Kieffer

Another good window on the face of it.
Definitely stronger for the additions.

Plan B, potentially a change in our approach for plan A, his experience & heading ability opens up a lot for us. We can add dimensions to our attack that should overcome teams with 11 behind the ball. Also his connection to both of our key midfielders should ease 'fitting in'
