Town Confirm Moore Loan Signing
Thursday, 1st Feb 2024 19:28

Town have confirmed the loan re-signing of striker Kieffer Moore.

A second striker has been the Blues’ priority on transfer deadline day with Moore to add to Ali Al-Hamadi, who was recruited from AFC Wimbledon earlier in the week.

“It’s great to finally get it over the line because it’s been a long time coming during the window,” Moore told TownTV.

“I remember my first spell here and I’ve gone away and worked very hard on myself during that time, so I’m delighted to be back and can’t wait to get going.

“I was really excited when I spoke to everyone here and now I just want to meet the group, get out on the pitch and contribute.”

Manager Kieran McKenna added: “We are delighted to have signed a striker with real pedigree at this level, as well as in the Premier League and at international level.

“Kieffer will bring some different attributes to the squad and comes with experience and quality, while also showing a real hunger to join the club and help the group.”

Town CEO Mark Ashton said: “We’re delighted to have completed a move for a player who was always our number one target.

“It’s been a real team effort from a wide range of people at the football club, including Luke Werhun, Gary Probert and the recruitment team, while Kieran McKenna and his coaching staff have all played their parts.

“We’re delighted to have got it across the line during a challenging window, with not a lot of movement across the leagues, and bring a current Premier League striker to the club.”

Moore, whose signing is the last business of the Blues’ transfer window, was previously at Town from a year from January 2017 but made only 11 sub appearances without scoring.

Capped 39 times by Wales, scoring 12 times, Moore had been recruited from then-National League Forest Green Rovers for £25,000 having been on loan at Torquay, also a fifth tier side, prior to his move.

The 6ft 5in tall striker’s career really took off during a loan spell with Rotherham, then in League One, in the first half of 2017/18 - having impressed as a sub for Town against the Millers the previous season - and in the January moved on to Barnsley, also in League One, for £750,000.

Spells in the Championship with Wigan and Cardiff followed, as well as senior Wales caps, before Moore moved on to AFC Bournemouth for a fee which could ultimately rise to £5 million in January 2022 and helped the Cherries to promotion to the Premier League.

However, his opportunities have been limited over the last two seasons, the Torquay-born striker has made only 15 starts and 29 sub appearances for the Dorset side in total, scoring 10 goals, and it was always expected he would move on to a Championship side during this window.

Moore, who will wear the number 24 shirt, is Town’s fourth signing of the window following on from the loan additions of Jeremy Sarmiento and Lewis Travis, and the permanent addition of Al-Hamadi.

This is an exciting move. I agree with others that he should not have been let go when he was last here but I suspect that we did not have the quality in coaches/back room staff then that we have now to have developed him back then.
Let us hope that he can do the job for us and keep us in the top two. Ali also sounds like a good piece of business and when Hurst returns we will have an even more potent threat up top.....coyb

remember O'Rourke seventeen goals in seventeen games if i remember, also signed my log in about same time. perhaps history repeating itself on forward and a midfield player, mind you i was eighteen at the time, remember cliff richards playing and everyone on the pitch, lets hope end of season is the same.

Great work from management but not sure where AlHam fits in. It’ll be interesting how it’s all going to work. Thought Moore left us too early so hoping he’ll show us what we missed.

Chaplin & Moore: could be a great "Little and Large" combination. Very happy with our business this transfer window. I think we look a lot stronger with four new additions - five really if you count Williams.

Since December 26th we lost George Hirst, Dane Scarlett & Freddie Ladapo from our striker/forward options; temporarily so in Hirst's case, who will hopefully play an important part again before the regular season is over. However, during a very difficult window, we have replaced all 3 with arguably better options.
We all love Hirst & acknowledge how significant he is to our success over the last year, so I am not for a second belittling that, but it is true to say that Kieffer Moore is a more proven Championship striker, with more experience & goals to his name, who has also played Premier League football, aswell as Euros & World Cup finals games against some of the best defenders in the world. He is a great addition.
I also liked Dane Scarlett & thought he was beginning to show what he can do, just before he was recalled, however, he was really that effective for us & was generally played as one of the 3 behind the centre forward, and always came on from the benvh for the last 20 minutes, if even that. He's a striker, but one whose skillset doesn't match what we require from our frontman. Jeremy Sarmiento has effectively replaced Scarlett, & has already delivered more in terms of goals & attacking quality than he did.
Finally Freddie; again we all like Freddie, recognise how important he was to us last season, but ultimately recognise that he has struggled against better, Championship, defenders, & so has gotten less & less game time as the season went on, despite being fit. Will Al Hamedi be a significant upgrade? Well, we don't know for sure yet, but his skillset would suggest that he has every chance & his age suggests that he is far more capable of developing his game under a coach like McKenna, so the prospects of him becoming a good player for us are strong. Bottom line, we know Freddie wasn't going to able to provide the play we need, we think Al Hamedi will be able to do thar, certainly if given time.

The other thing we managed to do was significantly upgrade our defensive/holding midfieler options by adding the 26 year year old, well experienced former captain of an established Championship side. When Morsy or Luongo have been out, we were weakened by playing Ball or Taylor in the middle (most of the time), but now with Travis in the house, we can be more confident going into tough matches even if one of Morsybor Luongo are carrying an injury or are suspended.
It was a decent transfer window, at a time when it waa a difficult window to do business in. Respect must go to the efforts of the club on this one

Freddie and Dane going elsewhere makes sense now because they were going to get even less game time. What an amazing job Kayden Jackson did in the last few weeks. He really is Mr Dependable in everything the club asks of him. He could be in goal next week. Utility man is one of the hardest roles in football as you tend to spend most of the time on the bench, but every club should have one.

WOW this is spooky...
My Football Manager 2023 Ipswich save got us promoted to champ in first season but struggled a bit. I sold Walton for 4.5M and purchased (would you beleive it) Kieffer Moore from Galatasaray in the January transfer window (the same time this happened in real life...) as i needed a big target forward with a good header and good finishing.
We got promoted! Now in the year 2034 and Cameron Humpreys is the only surviving player still playing for us, but we've won the Champions league 5 times ;)

I don’t think McCarthy and Terry Conner had any idea on how to coach this guy, did well at Rotherham on loan and obviously benefited from a different approach. Which in itself was surprising when you take into account of how he set his teams up for hoof football.
Good to see that we now have two options up front or do you think McKenna may try them both together?
I think these two acquisitions are pivotal to how the rest of the season goes for us.
