Eustace Plans Summer Travis Talks
Thursday, 15th Feb 2024 11:03

New Blackburn Rovers boss John Eustace says he plans to hold talks with skipper Lewis Travis, who is currently on loan with the Blues, in the summer.

Eustace took over at Ewood Park at the end of last week following the departure of Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Travis, 26, joined Town on loan in January having made few starts in his preferred holding midfield role in the previous months. His contract runs to the summer of 2026.

Eustace says the pair are yet to speak about his future but that Travis is a player he has always rated.

“I haven't spoken to him yet, we can't bring him back at the moment,” Eustace told The Lancashire Telegraph.

“He's a player that I have admired over the years, he's been a very good player at the level. It's something we'll have a chat about over the summer.”

So far, Travis has made two starts and one sub appearance - at Millwall last night - for the Blues.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are reported to be closing in on the appointment of former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner, although with Roy Hodgson still in charge.

Earlier in the week, Blues boss Kieran McKenna was reported to have turned down the chance to take over at Selhurst Park with the Eagles long-time admirers of the the Town manager.

Good…. Leave KmK alone

Hope Town start contract talks with Morsy soon….not sure about Travis……must be better out there and if he is seen as a replacement for Morsy if he goes I would hope Town have their sights higher

We've got to see where we are come June. He could be useful for the Championship but agree with Karlos, every position will need a player better than the current regular should we go up.

I think he’d be a fantastic squad player and I would jump at the chance to sign him, on reasonable wages. He’s an experienced player at this level and is gritty and hard working. He stepped in when SM was suspended and we hardly missed him, a feat no one in our squad has done. He’s only 26 and under McKenna and with big Sam to learn off he will only get better. Sign him up!

The games I watched Travis in I've been impressed certainly works very hard and did a good job when Morsy was suspended. We need that depth in the squad so could be a good signing in June

So much depends on which division we are in next season. Travis would probably love to play in the prem, but would we be looking as some have said at upgrades across most of the squad. There are players who could certainly play at prem level, but perhaps not all in the same side. If we are this league Travis would be hard but not impossible to better at this level. Morsy and luongo aren’t playing 46 games in a season.

As I said JDT will be gone before Travis comes back to us in the summer. And hey ho I was right I can see Travis staying with us and can see Eustace convincing him to stay one more season at the very least.

JDT ruined his confidence. Also heard he went over the top in training at Rovers and could have seriously hurt a player called Harley O'Grady Macken who is a u21 player for Rovers and senior players had to pull players away from Travis while JDT was in charge. So if he stays with us he needs to sort his head out. Ipswich are having a great season but I can't see you getting promoted and will miss out in the playoffs. So I'll look forward to Ipswich away again next season.
