Muric in Kosovo Squad
Monday, 17th Mar 2025 14:40

Town keeper Aro Muric is in the Kosovo squad playing Iceland in Nations League play-offs later this week.

The 26-year-old has been struggling with a shoulder problem but had an injection recently and was due to return to training over the weekend and then join up with his international squad from there.

“He’s not training with the group,” Town manager Kieran McKenna said on Friday. “He’s had the injection on a problem in his shoulder that he’s been managing over the last good period of time.

“He’s not trained yet, I think he’s going to start some work tomorrow with the goalkeeper coaches, hopefully he’ll be available to go away with Kosovo if he can get through the one or two bits over the next two days. It will be good to go away and get some game time.”

Muric, who has previously won 42 senior caps, wasn’t among the players manager Franco Foda said were ruled out at a lunchtime press conference having been included in the squad which was named at the end of last week.

The Kosovans host the Icelanders in Pristina on Thursday, then travel to Reykjavik for the second leg three days later.

They've let him back in the squad then?

Good for him personally but they're clearly not fussed about winning any games if his club got is anything yo go by.

Good stuff, we wouldnt have nearly as many points if it wasn't for him, 5 mistakes that led to goals that's it and 2 of those were in 4 goal drubbings
Spurs, Wolves, Brighton, Villa at home and yet he got abuse right since his first game, he is still 13th in most saves with 69 and only played half a season so that showd how many shots he faced and saved, but can't blame league 1 lads so it was him first, then Hodfrey, now Phillogene.
Shot the young lads confidence to bits, even Captain came out and said he was being made a scapegoat. Palmer is a good keeper but keepers can't stop everything, and Davis has cost us many more matches and points.
Hopefully Muric gets his mojo back

Yer, he's made errors here. Some of which have cost us goals. Hes also made a lot of good saves that have saved us points. Some of the errors have been dow to the constant pressure he, and the defence are under, with us not scoring enough goals. Those fans totally slating him, ask urselves this? Have we stopped conceding far too many goals since he's not been in the team? Absolutely not. Walton was responsible for 4 goals in 3 games. And while Palmer hasn't individually been at fault for any goals yet, he has conceded 13 goals in the last 5 games. So clearly there's been little difference in our ability to stop other teams from scoring. Fans need to stop using individuals as scapegoats. It's never down to one player, it's a team thing

I would play Muric from now the remainder of the season.
Palmer has let in 13 goals!
Walton sold, Palmer bench and Muric in goal.
Davies dropped too.
Its the defenders in front of our keepers who make mistakes and still do!
Yep he had a few howlers, but so has the Man utd keeper and he plays every game!
This team needs a massive shake up for the run in.
Over to you Kieran. Go earn your money and get this team firing.

When we go down Muric will be surplus and we can make space on our pay role
Bring back Harness who is doing well at Derby and H. Clarke. Phillips, Cajuste, Godfrey and Enciso will all go back to their parent clubs. O'Shea or Greaves can go and so can Tuanzebe.
First game of next season: Palmer, Johnson, Townsend, Woolfenden, Burgess, Morsy, Taylor, Broadhead, Szmodics, Hutchinson, Hirst- Subs Chaplin, J. Clarke, Philogene, Ogbene, Walton, Davis, H. Clarke, Ali Hamadi, Harness

@vanishblue2
That's made my day so funny,
The aim is to evolve the team, putting Phillogene and J Clarke on bench in Championship lol
Morsy & Taylor in mid I get the joke.
If we go down and its not definate yet but regardless all them league 1 lads be sold except Woolfeden, H Clarke and Burgess, maybe Hirst and Taylor that's it and Burgess out of contract.
Do some of you think we going to just get relegated and go back to the team that got us promoted last year lol of course we won't, simply because we know we can't survive the Premier League with those players so they will all go and new recruits will be bought into to continue the build around the players we signed and the younger lads.
Cripes
Cajuste I doubt goes as we have option to buy him, C Humphries is back and will get a chance in Championship
Our first 11 will be more like
Palmer
Tunazabe
Greaves
O'Shea
Townsend
Cajuste
Humphies or new signing
Phillogene/J Clarke
Hutchinson
Szmodicks
Delap or new signing
In a 4-4-2

Muric replaced Trafford in goal for last 10 games last season and only conceeded 16 that's 1.6 goal a game and 4 of those were from Newcastle
They beat Brentford, dew with Brighton, Chelsea, Man Utd, some very narrow defeats against Forest, Spurs etc and the season before was Championship keeper of season the year before.
I agree he should be back in for last 9, he could be the difference with Davis out for Townsend also.
Be ironic after all the moaners too if he kept us up best shot stopper we have.

Carberry added 16:53 - Mar 17
The facts are, he's top of the Premier League table for errors leading to goals, when Walton got injured the club decided they had to buy another keeper because they wouldn't put him back in the team.
That tells the story.

Time is a healer when a player has not been in the team for a while he automatically becomes a world beater. According to the official statistics Leejames99 Muric is the best keeper in the Premier league. During Allison's miraculous display against PSG away the Liverpool fans were heard singing are you Muric in disguise. So im expecting someone to come come in with a very large bid for him in the summer?

Leejames99 added 17:56 - Mar 17
@Carberry
The facts are he is joint top with Sanchez on mistakes that led to goals but not mistakes that led to losses except Southampton game when he got nothing but stick from own supporters aside that he made 1 vs Man City, 1 Vs Bournemoth and 1 vs West Ham 2 games of which we were beaten by 4. He is 13th still keeper with most saves
and only played around half season, that's 69 SOT he saved.
Conceeded 32 in 18 games that's 1.7 a game
Palmer and Walton combined have conceeded 30 in 10 games that's 2.7 a game nearly 3 so on that average since Muric went out we have had to score at least 2 to draw and 3 to win, not good reading is it. Muric wasn't at Man City academy, Championship player of year etc for nothing!
I just watched MOTD again goal 1 Davis for some reason on the right edge of box for a corner, goal 2 Davis in no man's land, Goal 3 just watched and goal 4 his side again in no man's land.
Nobody going mad at Palmer for kicking ball at Cajuste for corner that led to goal but its not Palmers fault, where did he have to rush out too and Cajuste run back to the big gap left by who Leif Davis nowhere to be seen at left back.
Penalty Fulham whose fault Davis too knackered
Man Utd at home whose faultDavis out of position at kick off and so on
If we can without league 1 fanclub membership see it why can't Mckenna.
I hope Muric and Townsend come back in and the league 1 lot can see what we are like without those, like we did at Villa (Woolfenden played well)

Grow up, the stats are there, you seen the goals lost and saves made, stats are facts just there are only a few who say how it is and not just protect players from lower league's because they think they know them. That's why they were in League 1, some were them good enough for Championship and only a couple have made step up in Woolf, Burgess, H Clarke will and Broadhead that's it.
We won't sell Muric we need him, Walton be sold to Colchester or Chesterfield, Slicker may go on loan and we promote a young keeper depending on league.
We aren't going to get rid in Championship if there of Muric who was keeper of the year when Burnley easily went back up or a keeper who has been a solid keeper in Championship for years combined cost 12 mill to keep a reserve goalie we got for peanuts in league one 3 seasons ago and conceeds goals like running water.

But thanks for comment, you just taking a break from Minecraft? No homework to do?

Rimsy added 20:05 - Mar 17
Surely if we get any sort of offer, Muric will be off. He's just one of those signings that doesn't work out. Palmer with Slicker as backup is the way forward. Got to get Slicker involved at some point.

Can’t help but laugh at some of these comments.

If a player doesn’t play well they should be dropped. Muric and Philogene are probably our worst signings.

I questioned the Muric signing from the start and he did nothing to change my perception.

Fans that are happy continuing to play players that are liabilities are just a joke themselves.

Burnley fans were laughing all over social media when we signed Muric for £8 mil + in the summer. My Forest mate told me that they cancelled his loan and sent him back only after 5 games. Until today, still no improvement. The reason why Muric has saved so many shots (as mentioned by some above) and Walton/Palmer having conceded a lot is because our defence is shocking. Have you seen Forest's third and fourth goal on Saturday? Even prime Buffon would struggle to keep the score down with that kind of kamikaze defending.

Leejames99 added 22:16 - Mar 17
@Gkroon89
You are right players who don't play well and that's the point Muric did play well and if not for him we would be rock bottom - with Muric in goal we made 12 points in 18 games with Walton and Palmer we made 5 points in 10 games including only 2 points this year and here is no surprise 1 of those points was vs Villa when Davis didn't play and the other was Fulham away which we should of won
we were 2-1 up and who gives away penalty in 91st minute..Davis because he was knackered from making his left wing run which he didn't need to as Jack Clarke was on pitch.
So yes players no good need dropped Davis and Muric back in goal and we may pick up some points.
As for Phillogene again his most natural position is left wing as is Jack Clarke but Phillogene can play right bur because Mckenna refuses to drop Davis 3 out of our front three are out of position and have to defend or cover gaps so Delap gets no service.
Davis 2 assists all season we would have had many more goals if are wingers could play their game.
That is on Mckenna to have guts to drop Davis.
Stats and facts don't lie, have a little look.

A tiny section of Burnley fans on a forum and who looks at other teams forums anyway, they got more points in last 10 games than they did nearly all season and were only 5 points off staying up, what you mean is he made a howler in a 1-0 loss vs Everton so cost them a point.
Forest he was and still is young like Slicker is now.

In regards to Walton and Palmer conceding that's not because of all our defence its because of Leif Davis, goals 1 he was over on right, 2nd and 4th he was in no man's land again and 3rd just watched Greaves.
Our defence is solid when Davis doesn't play, all season Davis leaves left back and the 3 remaining defenders having to move over to cover gap he has left which leaves big gap on right or vice versa then they get the blame not Davis it's crazy.
Godfrey got blame vs Spurs but that was Davis fault again, evert team all season knows left or right there will be a gap caused from Davis in no man's land, how many goals have been scored from the wingers cutting in this season.
Pound for pound Muric is best shot stopper, Parker is good keeper, Walton League 1/low Championship.

@ITFCSG
You also just claimed Muric is best keeper, you said the reason Muric saved so many and Palmer/Walton conceeded so many is down to defence so by you opinion Muric is the better keeper as he saves the shots the other 2 concede them.

Dissboyitfc added 10:30 - Mar 18
Lee James you can quote all the stats you like, one issue that stats do not quote and the impact on the team and results is the confidence the defence have in him, poor communication from him just not a good fit, palmer much better and understands the importance of being part of Ipswich town! Will never forgive him for being all smiles with pep after man city thrashing, no Ipswich player supporter or anyone connected to club should have been able to smile after that, personally I couldn’t face anyone or anything! I do wish you would explain why you are more qualified in your comments than anyone else on here.

Marinersnose added 10:41 - Mar 18
There are some balanced options on here regarding Muric but too many just want to hang him out to dry. I think those with a reasonable understanding of the game will agree that Muric has made some costly errors which ultimately have lead to the team losing but conversely he has made some top saves and won us the game eg at Spurs. A fair assessment imo would be that it clearly isn’t a goalkeeping issue but a defensive issue where the team as a collective aren’t applying the basics. As one post has pointed out Palmer conceded four against Forest but was this defeat down to him ? I think we know the answer. Collectively the team has to be better.

Gkroon. So u ars judging Philogene after 4 games, when having to adapt to a new position, basically playing as a wing back in the last few games. And despite thst, he's scored more goals in the past 4 games (3),than even Delap. Typical town fan, never give anyone a chance.

blues1 added 12:33 - Mar 18
Carberry. Typical town fan, concentrating on the negative side of his game. Never mind the fact, that at the time he was left out, he was joint 4th for saves made. We bought Palmer bcse at the time walton was injured, we didn't know how long he was gonna be out, so needed another keeper.

blues1 added 12:36 - Mar 18
ITFCSG Some Burnley fans were saying laughing. But an awful lot of them said that they believed had he played the whole season, they'd have stayed up. Bcse Trafford was awful that season.

Dissboyitfc. Really? You cant forgive him for laughing and joking with pep after the game? A manager who always talks to opposition players after the match. Even more so as Muric used to be at Man city. Need to grow up a bit. As for ur point about the defence being nervous with him behind them? Don't totally disagree with you on that, but hiw come we've, in effect,
conceded more goals with Walton and Palmer in goal than when he was? Walton conceded 10 in his last 2 games, (4 due to his errors), and Palmer, while none down to him making errors, has conceded 13 in ths last 5 games. Don't think you'll find, whoever is in goal, is the biggest issue.
