Diallo Signing Confirmed
Diallo Signing Confirmed

As expected Town manager Joe Royle has moved quickly to make out-of-contract defender Drissa Diallo his first Town signing. The impending capture of the Guinean international had become an open secret in recent days with the deal completed within hours of the club having their transfer embargo lifted.

The 30-year-old spent a short spell with Burnley towards the end of last season and Clarets' boss Stan Ternent was keen to sign him on a more permanent basis. However, the Blues were able to offer a better deal than the Turf Moor club.

Ironically, Diallo made his Burnley debut at home to Town in January and impressed both sets of supporters. Burnley had a poor defensive record last season but the central defender was not involved in either of their seven-goal thrashings.

Diallo, born in Mauritania and raised in France, previously played in Belgium with Mechelen but was forced to leave due to their recent financial collapse.

Blues' boss Joe Royle told the club site that Diallo would be a major component in Town's defence next season: "We have been tracking Drissa for a while and he fits the bill in what we have been looking for.

"He's outstanding in the air, quick and as brave as they come.

"We conceded too many goals last season and I'm confident we have taken a step towards solving that problem by bringing Drissa to the club."

As he is out of contract Diallo has not cost Town a fee.
