Scottish Premier League side Hibernian have confirmed former Blue Mark Venus as player/coach. Last month ex-Town coach Tony Mowbray was named manager of the Edinburgh club.

Mowbray met with his players for the first time earlier this week as pre-season training began and is examining the strength of his squad: "We'll have to assess how far down the line we are.

"We have a lot of young lads who, hopefully, will come back pretty fit and looking good.

"We'll assess how much work we think they need.

"If someone needs a lot of work then they can expect to be working right through to get themselves into shape."

Venus started last season at Cambridge United after being released by Town the previous summer. After a row with manager John Taylor he spent the end of the season with Dagenham and Redbridge.

Prior to Mowbray's appointment at Hibs, Venus had ben ready to spend 2004/05 with Ryman League Premier Division Hornchurch.
