Town Draw Doncaster
Town Draw Doncaster
Wednesday, 25th Aug 2004 22:42

Town have drawn Doncaster Rovers away in round two of the Carling Cup. The two sides have not met since the 1950s and Town have never won at Doncaster.

The Blues have only ever played Rovers in the league, Town last making a trip to Belle Vue in 1958 for a 1-1 draw.

Earlier that season, Town had won 2-0 at Portman Road. In 1954/55 there was another 1-1 draw at Belle Vue, but the Blues had won the Portman Road fixture 5-1.

No current Town player has played for Doncaster, although summer departure Jermaine Wright spent a loan spell there early in his career. Two seasons ago, Academy player Steve Burton moved to the recently promoted League One club but he left for Scarborough this summer.

The game will be played in the week commencing 20th September.
