Town Play in Notman Game
Town Play in Notman Game
Thursday, 26th Aug 2004 11:46

Town will field an XI in a benefit game for former Norwich player Alex Notman. The midfielder's career ended in bizarre circumstances, an ankle injury picked up when blocking a Mark Venus freekick at Portman Road in 2002 eventually forcing him to hang up his boots.

The 24-year-old made a comeback a year later but the ex-Manchester United trainee never regained full fitness.

Past and present Norwich and Ipswich players will play in the match, at Carrow Road on Friday, October 8th.

Notman says he is grateful to the two clubs: "I am very pleased that they have been kind enough to offer this game to me. They didn't have to offer it to me; it's not like I'd been there 10 years or anything like that.

"There will be past and present Norwich and Ipswich players, and as there isn't going to be a derby this year, perhaps this will do instead."

Town legend John Wark will be in the Town line-up while there is also a rumour that Paul Gascoigne, who had a trial with the Blues as a youngster, may also be involved.

The sides will be managed by Joe Royle and Nigel Worthington.
