Petta Leaves Celtic
Petta Leaves Celtic

Former Town midfielder Bobby Petta has left Celtic after his contract was terminated by mutual agreement. Petta joined the Scottish giants on a Bosman from Town in 1999.

After a shaky start to his career at Parkhead, Petta eventually became an important part of Martin O'Neill's side which won the treble in 2000.

However, personal and injury problems saw him drift out of the first team picture and he went on loan at Fulham last season.

O'Neill says he wishes the 30-year-old Dutchman the best of luck wherever his career takes him: "With the emergence of young Ross Wallace, together with the fact that Alan Thompson and Stephen Pearson are with us, Bobby felt he wanted a fresh start.

"We will be eternally grateful for the great effort he put into the season we won the treble when he made a fantastic contribution to the team. We all wish him well for the future."
