Town manager Joe Royle was impressed with debutant Darren Currie after he scored once and set-up another after coming on as a sub. Currie himself was pleased to score for the second time this season against a club he supported as a boy.

Royle said Currie made a big impression after coming on as a sub in the 55th minute: "He had a terrific impact on the game.

"I have been aware of Darren for some years, and it came to our notice before the Brighton game that he was in the best form of his career - he was their best player against us. He has quality: he loves the ball, and the ball loves him."

Royle felt Town missed too many chances: "We score a lot of goals, but we don't half miss some, but we upped the pace in the second half. They were penned in and it was a question of how many we were going to score."

Currie was pleased with his goalscoring debut: "It was quite a shock when I found out I was moving to Ipswich, but I was pleased with my contribution, and I have now scored two goals against QPR this season after the one for Brighton in September.

"QPR were my team when Tony Currie was here and I used to come to the matches. People will wonder if my uncle will be unhappy that I scored against QPR today, but he just wants me to do well."

Rangers' manager Ian Holloway said the game was closer than the scoreline suggested: "They did not deserve to win by two goals, but there is no shame in being beaten by Ipswich.

"They are one of the best teams - if not the best team - that we have played this season."
