Town target Alun Armstrong is probably best remembered by Town fans from his days as Stockport's main threat. He was the one with the rather unpleasant bleached hair who did so well against us in that Coca-Cola Cup match when they knocked us out (95/96).

His spell at Boro began when he was transferred for £1,600,000 in February 1998. Much of this time has been spent recovering fron various injuries. First he required surgery on a serious back problem and then required another operation on an Achilles tendon injury.

At the end of last season he went on loan to Huddersfield, ironically to fill the gap left by Marcus Stewart, and failed to score on his four starts and two sub appearances.

At Stockport Armstrong made 152 (+8 as sub) League appearances scoring 49 goals with another 39(1) Cup appearances and 13 goals. At Boro he started just 10 League games and played another 19 as sub. he scored nine goals. He also made four League Cup appearances including one this season against Macclesfield.
