Davis Deal Complete

Keeper Kelvin Davis has completed his £1.25 million move to Sunderland, signing a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light. Davis leaves the Blues after two seasons at Portman Road.

Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy was pleased to have made his fourth signing of the summer: “This represents a tremendous signing for Sunderland. Kelvin has played in the Premier League before with Wimbledon and he has played something near 40 games a season for the last four years.

“He was voted the best goalkeeper in the Championship by the PFA last season, and at 28, he is also at the prime age for a goalkeeper. He has terrific ability and is experienced, so we're delighted to have Kelvin in our squad for the Premiership.”

Davis made 93 appearances for Town after joining on a free transfer in the summer of 2003 from the club then known as Wimbledon. The Dons — now the MK Dons — will receive an as yet undisclosed percentage of the fee.

How much of the £1.25 million the Blues will receive immediately is also unknown with some part of it likely to be due on appearances or other top-ups.

The completion of the Davis deal means that Joe Royle can now start his summer recruitment with chief executive Derek Bowden promising that some of the fee will be made available for funding new signings.
