Skipper Jim Magilton will be staying with the Blues after signing his one-year deal. The Northern Irishman has been weighing-up whether to remain with Town or take the offer of a two-year player-coach contract at Bristol Rovers.

Magilton, 36, looked all set to leave the club but after meeting with boss Joe Royle last week asked for extra time in which to make his decision.

The former Oxford, Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder is keen to become a coach when his playing days are over, but he and his wife ultimately want to move back to the Liverpool area.

Rovers manager Ian Atkins had offered a two-year deal but Magilton appears happy to let his coaching aspirations wait for a year, perhaps in the hope that a club from the North-West will offer him an opportunity next summer.
