Blackburn's James McEveley has joined the Blues on a year's loan. The 19-year-old left-back, known as Jay, had spells with Gillingham and Burnley last season.

The 6ft 2in tall product of Blackburn's academy made his debut for Rovers as a 17-year-old in 2002/03 and has gone on to make 20 senior appearances for the Ewood Park club.

While on loan with the Gills between March and May this year McEveley made 10 appearances - including the 0-0 draw with the Blues at the Priestfield Stadium - and scored one goal. Previously when at Burnley he made one start and four appearances from the bench.

Born in Liverpool, McEveley has won one England U21 cap and has also featured for the U20 side. Blackburn have the right to recall McEveley during the January transfer window if they require him.

Contracted to Blackburn until June 2007, McEveley was at Portman Road to see the Blues in action against Preston.
