Town will receive around £200,000 should Marcus Bent complete his move from Everton to Charlton. The Addicks are paying the Toffeemen an initial £2 million for the nomadic striker plus another £500,000 when the 27-year-old reaches a set number of appearances.

When Bent joined Everton from Town in the summer of 2004 for £450,000, the Blues included a sell-on clause worth 10% of any profit the Goodison Park club made on the deal.

Town will ultimately receive £205,000 from the deal if Bent reaches his appearance milestone, however, as with most transfers, Charlton will pay for their new frontman in a number of instalments which is when the Blues will receive their share of the fee.

Everton chief executive Keith Wyness revealed earlier today that Bent had made his way south for talks: "The two clubs have been speaking over the weekend and have agreed a deal.

"We have now given permission to Marcus to travel to London to discuss personal terms.

"I would like to say how much we appreciate the approach from Charlton throughout. It shows how these transfers can be done in a good professional manner."

If, as expected, Bent agrees terms he will be reunited with former Town team-mates Matt Holland, Darren Bent, Hermann Hreidarsson and Darren Ambrose, while keeper Dean Kiely spent time on loan with the Blues in the early 90s.
