Joe Royle was annoyed after yet another under par display by his Town side. The Blues ended their poor season with a 2-1 defeat at Plymouth.

Royle said: "I am angry. The performance was just not good enough and I expected more, especially after we took the lead.

"All season we have had to play with one striker, because another one of them has been injured.

"I am disappointed for our fans, who have travelled a long way to see this, but we have got three or four out and I thought we did not match Plymouth physically.

"We were physically weak in certain areas of the park because of the team we had to field. We missed Alan Lee's strength and Fabian Wilnis is our best full-back at stopping crosses coming in.

"Richard Naylor took a knock early on to his head and I think was slightly concussed and that didn't help us because we didn't defend well and gave away too bad goals.

"In a way, that game has been indicative of our season; too many bad goals given away and too many players missing.

"We'll need a big improvement, but I'm confident when we start again next year with a full complement of players, we'll be a match for anyone in this division.

"Shane Supple was outstanding for us. His save from Micky Evans when one-on-one was first class but it didn't surprise me. He's so fast across the ground in those situations and gets in the right place at the right time to make the save."

Pilgrims boss Tony Pulis was pleased that departing striker Micky Evans ended his time at Home Park on a high note: "The script could not have been written any better. It was a great goal, a great day for Micky and a good day for us as a club.

"It was important to finish with a win — three-and-a-half months is a long time to dwell on a loss.

"I want to let people know that the bedrock for our success this season has been the players that I inherited that have been here for a long time, the likes of Micky, Paul Wotton, Lee Hodges, Romain Larrieu and player of the year David Norris.

"I was delighted with the win - and yet again I felt we could have had more goals really."
