More on Verheyen Mon 02nd Oct 2000 16:47
A Belgium based TWTD Message Board regular has provided more info from the Belgian press on Verheyen's possible (now seeming ever more probable) move to Town. The player is quoted in Het Eerste Nieuws today on the subject of the move and he seems more than interested: "I can earn 3 times as much playing for Ipswich, I'd be an idiot if I wasn't interested". I don't want to play for Arsenal or Chelsea, Ipswich is already big enough for me!"
New Offer for Verheyer Mon 02nd Oct 2000 15:55
The Club Brugge official website is reporting that Town have made an offer of 120 million Belgian francs for Gert Verheyen, which converts as roughly £1,782,807.22. The Belgian site suggests that Town will triple the 30-year-old's wages and that he spoke to his club about the move when he heard of Town's interest. More as it happens...
Brown Off Mon 02nd Oct 2000 15:03
Wayne Brown seems to be in the verge of leaving Town with reports today that both Wimbledon and Stockport want to take the centre-half on loan with a view to a permanent transfer.
Another Move for Verheyen Mon 02nd Oct 2000 11:26
With the weekend's offer to Club Brugge of around the £1 million mark turned down by the Belgians Town may look to put in an improved offer. Brugge commercial manager, Antoine Vanhove, said of the original Town offer: "Ipswich's offer is less than £1.75 million and I have told them that the answer is no. It is possible that they will offer more but we don't want to release Verheyen. We have already sold Fadiga and Deflandre and we don't want to lose our best players. We have our own ambitions." So it looks like £1.7 million will be the cost of getting the player, who scored two goals at the weekend as Brugge won 5-2 against KV Mechelen. Verheyen himself seems keen on Town's wooings: "Ipswich Town's interest is serious. I don't just want to leave it. I will talk to Vanhove about the situation in the next few days."
Academy Do Well Sun 01st Oct 2000 12:43
Town's Academy teams had a good visit to Fulham with the U19s drawing 2-2 while the U17s truly went to Town winning 6-1. Scorer of both goals for the U19s was Nabil Abidallah in a game the Blues would have won, but for bad defending. The U17s goals came from a Matthew Robinson hat-trick, Ian Westlake, Steve Burton and Robert Dickinson.
