Town's youths proceeded to round four of the FA Youth Cup with a 3-2 win over Leicester. In truth it should have been more confortable, but Town made heavy weather against a side who were clearly inferior. |

Former Town centre-half Jason Cundy has been forced to retire after failing to recover from a knee injury. The 31-year-old moved to Portsmouth on a free at the end of the 98/99 season, but managed just eleven appearances with his new club, one against Town at Fratton Park last season in the 1-1 draw. |

Town continue to await Alun Armstrong's decision on whether he becomes a Town player. The Middlesbrough man returned to the North-East yesterday to discuss the move with his wife. Prior to this he had passed a medical and the Blues had even called a press conference for 3pm. However, the former Stockport man needed more time and is currently mulling Town's offer over. |

Town manager George Burley said: "This is only reasonable as our negotiations only began last night and this involves a major relocation for Alun and his young family.
